What, you might ask, are the NZVJ's policies and advice on using gen AI in researching and writing articles? Great question. We've written an editorial to address the issue.

We're a small, friendly team at the NZVJ. If your research is good science and within our scope (link in comments), we'll happily take the time to work with you on the language.

Nothing gives us the warm fuzzies like seeing a new submission from a team of EAL authors we've worked with before!

How is a cohort study different to a cross-sectional study or a case-control study? This recent article in JAVMA @avmajavma.bsky.social is a great primer on how to accurately describe your medical records-based study, with examples of each type.

A new study in the NZVJ finds that NZ has comparatively low levels of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria from canine and feline urinary tract samples. AMR is, however, increasing in some commonly found bacterial species.

Here's where the NZVJ's reviewers over the past 12 months have come from ⬇️ How many can you guess?

Out of sight, out of mind? We might not send many animals to the final frontier, but that doesn't make their welfare less important than animals on Earth.
As a Russian space mission is set to launch mice into orbit, regulations are long overdue to recognise the sentience of animals and protect their welfare.
We’ve been sending animals into space for 7 decades – yet there are still no rules to protect them from harm
