Watch Hudson the beaver put those impressive teeth to work! 🦫 In the wild, beavers use their sharp teeth and strong jaws to gnaw branches for building cozy dens and stocking up food stores.

Our senior red foxes recently had their annual wellness exams, and our veterinary & animal care team made sure they received the royal treatment. From eyes to ears, teeth to paws (kept warm with tiny socks), the team performed thorough health checks and gave them boosters.

It’s rut season for our black-tailed deer! 🦌 Males are showing off their stunning antlers and competing for attention. These impressive antlers shed and regrow each year, and are a sign of health and strength during the fall mating season.

Meet Tahoma the bobcat for National Cat Day! 🐾

He came to Northwest Trek in 2020 after being kept illegally as a pet. He’s now living his best wild life. Tahoma loves to nap in the ferns and snack on chicken. It took him a little while to learn to climb trees, but he’s a natural now! 🌲🐱

As the days get colder, our bears are starting to slow down and enter torpor—a light form of hibernation. During torpor, a bear’s heart rate, breathing, and metabolism drop, helping them conserve energy. Unlike true hibernation, they can still wake up and move around occasionally. 1/2

Meet Taiga! Our stunning 8-year-old snowy owl is easy to recognize by her beautiful dark feather spots. Female snowy owls like Taiga tend to have more dark markings, which help with camouflage while nesting. Males, on the other hand, become whiter as they age, sometimes nearly pure white!
