About a dog named Colly
I have a character named Colly who has been in my mind for well over 15 years by now yet who I have never, to my memory, written down even one word about. Certainly I can't find his name in my files. He's a mixed breed dog, none of which is an actual collie; haven't ever really settled on what's in there Colly's whole deal is that he cannot be killed no matter how brutally he's treated. He's not immortal: his body ages and he will succumb to that death one day, but he will not die by any other means. Shoot him through the head and he'll just sit there inert until his brain's regrouped itself enough for the body to function again. Decapitate him and his head will roll back into place under its own steam. Grind him into a paste, mix him with cement and bury the whole mixture a mile deep and his bodily essence will push its way up through the ground like green shoots rising from seeds until they crack through the surface and begin to reconstitute. Blast him into the centre of the sun, his ashes will just do the same thing once they've passed through in defiance of gravity. This is all very much an automatic process: Colly is only as in control as the current state of his brain will allow him to be Despite all this Colly is a delightfully upbeat and optimistic sort, tremendously well-adjusted in his daily life.
