This is a great piece of journalism on the consequences of the government's plan to cut juries from trails. The right to be tried by a jury of our peers is a cornerstone of a fair justice system—and one that recognises that the law is not always what is morally right.

It tells you everything you need to know that Reform are parachuting in a rent-an-extremist - this isn't about representing the people of Gorton and Denton, it's about using this place as a platform for their careers.

Manchester will show him the door.

20 years ago Sweden abolished the wealth tax. Since then inequality has grown and the country is now a paradise for billionaires. The correlation between unfair taxation and inequality is undeniable. If we want to ‘fix’ our societies then we need taxes on the wealthiest.
‘We got lazy and complacent’: Swedish pensioners explain how abolishing the wealth tax changed their country
For some Swedes, the question isn’t simply whether a wealth tax works, but what kind of society has been lost with its abolition.

MoJ has not done anywhere near enough to convince us that removing juries from the majority of trails would protect the public from potential abuses. Without juries governments can more easily abuse their power and potentially take political prisoners.
Interviewees warn that removing the right to trial by jury would fundamentally change the justice system.

This clip is from our video on the proposed changes to jury trials and what they could mean for freedom of expression in this country.

So basically Reform UK is now Rishi Sunak's Cabinet, just led by Nigel Farage.

The US are no longer a reliable ally and it is uncertain when they will be again. For this reason, and others, the UK and EU need to develop their own internet technologies and infrastructure. It won't be cheap, but this is essential to insure independence from unreliable US actors.

With the US threatening war over the acquisition of Greenland, it is important to reflect on our vulnerability to US technological hegemony.

This is a genuine problem. Trump treats politics like entertainment and has done for a decade. I’m not sure what the answer is but distrust in politics creates the conditions that makes humour hugely appealing to a large bloc of voters.
In this short from the Rest is Politics, Rory Stewart says he finds himself genuinely laughing at Trump’s comments when answering questions.

Yesterday in Horsley, Derbyshire, Reform UK were beaten in a local by-election.

That didn’t happen by accident. Local people organised, spoke to voters, and pushed back.

It shows that when Reform are challenged locally, they can be stopped.

I think there’s a fine line for covering Reform and Farage. Farage loves the attention and always wants to be in the news cycle. It’s better to focus on the party and how ridiculous it is rather than on one character. Farage is more an entertainment figure than a serious politician for most people.

1. Many of the very wealthiest Americans and Europeans can accept Trump’s antics so long as he cuts taxes and ensures the stock market trends upwards. Increasing political instability with Europe will threaten their wealth.

The public want it, many wealthy people want it, when will politicians start doing something about it? @zackpolanski.bsky.social and @greenparty.org.uk are the only serious political contenders proposing wealth taxes in the UK. It’s a matter of time before other parties begin copying them.
