The 2024 Norfolk Bird & Mammal Report has now been published. Members will receive their free copy by post, whilst additional copies will be on sale at selected local outlets. The report is a huge undertaking - thanks to all involved, especially Barry Madden, Neil Lawton & Mick Saunt #NorfolkBirding
Hi, usually it would be all sorted by now, but I think we are currently between webmasters so haven’t a”been able to add it. I know that WildSounds were given stock if you want to buy online(www.wildsounds.com/cgi-bin/high...), or if you email Tony Leech he has our copies so could organise it.

Once the rain had passed I went for a walk around Old Catton today. One of the more interesting finds was this Mistletoe growing on Norway Maple. There is quite a bit of Mistletoe in this part of the city, but mostly on Lime (Tilia).

Another super haul of Caspian Gulls on North Scrape tonight, at least seven (maybe eight) birds in to roost including a minimum 5 1cy birds. All of the birds tonight were new individuals. The turnover at the moment is impressive & (still) exciting. Just love these!

Summer's leftovers - old root galls of the tiny wasp Xestophanes potentillae on Creeping Cinquefoil (Potentilla reptans) to surprise us @norfolknats.bsky.social at Wymondham Abbey today - identified by Robert Maidstone and serenaded by the congregation (fervent hymn sounds muffled through walls).

A little saunter down to Colney church on the edge of Norwich with @jeremybartlett.bsky.social today led to the discovery of a Dicranopalpus larvatus harvestman. The only other site for this species in Norfolk is at Earlham Cemetery in Norwich. Good to finally get another site for them.

Earthy Powdercap, Cystoderma amianthinum.

Found these small (but perfectly formed) specimens this afternoon, growing in mossy grass.

Swarms of small brown on woodchip at UEA, Norwich.

Last year I found them in the same place and collected samples for DNA analysis. They turned out to be Marasmiellus villosipes (aka Collybiopsis villosipes). UEA is the second Norfolk site.

The second Rubus hybrid seen with #NorfolkFloraGroup today was Rubus ulmifolius x vestitus, a common hybrid worth knowing. Intermediate with parents: hairy purple primocanes, rounded terminal lobes with white undersides. Inflorescences typically not developing fruit.

Despite the season it was a good day for brambles with #NorfolkFloraGroup This is one of the Rubus x loganobaccus group hybrids which include Loganberry - raspberry x one of the fruticosus agg, in this case the second parent is probably Rubus hindii. They have raspberry-like leaves & bramble stems
