Why does Fly on the Wall Press exist? 💭

We're here to break down the boundaries in traditional publishing, and promote stories that push forward voices that have been disregarded.

It's time to challenge ourselves through books.

Chilly day here but a sunny walk at least.
The snowdrops won’t last much longer in the cemetery, but they do seem to bloom earlier there than anywhere else.

Oh. The sunshine of yesterday was a fluke…

At least there’s the Olympics to watch and I’ve got plenty of books!

On my blog this week I talk about books but in more unusual ways I've come across them in the Regimental Museum where I volunteer

Absolutely shattered now but what a fun day - the tour @britishlibrary.bsky.social was wonderful, so informative with items personal to the guide picked out as well as more obvious treasures.
4 bookshops visited and 10 books purchased. Hoarding book tokens meant guilt free shopping!

I am absolutely convinced that strong smelling perfumes, sprays, aftershaves, deodorants should be banned.
I don’t mean I want to go back to the days before soap, regular washing and deodorants in general but strong scents are the worst.
Can you tell I’m on a busy & smelly train?!

Finally Friday and a treat this weekend as I'm off to London for the day. It's an indulgent book shopping day with a visit to @dauntbooks.bsky.social then a tour @britishlibrary.bsky.social with more time to browse in their bookshop & others in that area.
Plus I've been hoarding book tokens!

Doesn’t every couple celebrate their 30th anniversary by competing against each other whilst watching old episodes of Call My Bluff.

I’m losing badly tonight!

Better weather than forecast today so we went up to the coast to see the seals on the beach as they complete their annual moult.

Hundreds on the sand, possibly over a thousand. All being watched over by volunteers to keep them and us safe.

After losing my Welsh fellow rugby loving friend last year I wasn't sure if I'd be able to watch the rugby today - it's so hard not having her to text with during play but at least it's a good match. And I've got her commentary playing in my mind too.

Think I prefer the women's game over all

I looked at Kindle insights last night & it showed I've read on the device for the last 1000 days.
If you count physical books I'm on a longer streak, but it's the weekly count that interests. 7 1/2 years is about when I regained the ability to read fluently after my brain haemorrhage.

Watching the Olympic opening ceremony and remembering all the books I’ve read from the various nations and am commenting on the nations I’m finding it hard to find books for!
I can make anything about reading!

Another vile weather day here, although by some miracle we did manage a walk in the dry.
It has been brightened some what by the cat curling up on me for a nap.
It's the longest he's ever sat on either of us at over an hour. I've got cramp but of if I as much as twitch he digs a claw in!

When in doubt, under the weather, or just a bit meh it's always good to order a book because that means a parcel to open - and who doesn't like that!

Thanks to @northodoxpress.bsky.social for sending my order so quickly!

Well on the positive side the neurologist didn't dismiss my headaches & pain...

But all he can offer to try is another acute treatment (which it's debatable if I'll tolerate or will be of any use due to my migraine presentation) as this area won't fund the newer preventative drugs.
February 4, 2026 at 1:38 PM
Struggling today. It hasn’t got light, there’s an 8 degree windchill
making it feel well below zero, work is less than stellar, and I’m nervous about my neurologist appointment tomorrow.
Recent letters are not hopeful about any chance of treatment or effective pain relief.
Oh and the cat threw up

As today is Groundhog Day and I’ve never seen the film guess what we’re watching tonight?

Personally I prefer Candlemas and celebrating snowdrops and that winter is half way over.

On a walk impeccably timed between rain showers/downpours we didn’t expect to see anything - instead we saw 19 species of bird and heard a further 8.
Not too shabby and I didn’t slip in the mud!

Somehow I have read 27 books in January & I have to thank everyone that recommended Woman in Blue as it was my first novel of 2026 and it’s going to be hard to top.
Non fiction has started well and I really recommend Life Boat at the End of the World (out in March) as well as Frostlines.

The forecast was right and we had a lovely sunny walk this morning, followed by a cosy pub lunch.
Sadly the sun then went in and my mood plummeted but I have a stack of library books and there’s a casserole in the oven so I will concentrate on positive things.

Another cold, grey, and damp day here. Forced myself out for a walk but tbh not sure it did anything for my mental health!
Even the cat is looking depressed and avoiding going out.

Forecast possibly more hopeful for tomorrow so let's hope it is right.

Change of plans with my reading today as another long awaited reservation arrived at the library.

I’m enjoying Do Admit Me by Mimi Pond - all about the Mitford family plus some of Pond’s autobiography *but* half way in and Pamela & brother Tom are pretty much not mentioned which is odd…

Today has just been from - wet, windy, and dark all day
Even the cat is depressed.

Not sure booking a trip to Iceland (in hope of seeing the Northern Lights) in March as a birthday treat was wise. Possibly should have gone for a winter sun break…
