Rough and Tumble nearly kinda had that vibe, but their final concept got rid of the clothes.
The initial concepts for Rough and Tumble from the IDW Sonic comics. Rough (the small one on the left) wore a torn neon pink vest, while Tumble (the tall albino one on the right) wore a torn crop top and shorts. After the crashing of the blimp into Resistance HQ, Rough and Tumble were dragged into fixing what was broken. During their employment under Clutch, they met Lucia's bodyguards, Jen and Stevie. And after the incident, they had the opportunity to become closer and really make their first friends. Rough's was Jen. He thought the unicorn was nothing but a prissy pretty boy. But the more they talked...the more they laughed, he started to understand the kind of feeling Tumble felt for Stevie. However, he was a bit more in denial. He didn't know what having friends was like. What being in love was like. There was never any room for that sort of thing for the skunk brothers before. Why start now? Still... Not long after the brothers were employed again by Clutch under blackmail but defied the opossum at the end of it all. Then they became employed with Lucia Fox in Barricade Town. By that point...there was no point hiding how he felt about Jen when he saw him again... No fighting, no drama, no destruction... Just him.

There are days where I can't stop thinking about this concept art for Tangle. Both because that sports fit is right up my alley, but also can't help but wonder if she was actually considered to be teammates with Rough & Tumble, and therefore more of a rival.

Page Three: (5 Panels) Panel 1- Starline is walking into view and towards the light. He’s somewhat averting his gaze. Tabi is standing with their arms folded while Zori’s all too happy to chat. Starline Er, greetings. I hope I’m not interrupting anything pressing. Zori Oh, no! Tabi and me were just playing rock-paper-scissors. Panel 2- Similar to last panel, but now Zori is gesturing to Tabi, who is looking up at them. Zori’s speaking candidly about the game. Zori It’s a bit tough, though, since Tabi always picks rock. Maybe they know it’s because I always use scissors. Or maybe it’s on account of Tabi not having fingers? Panel 3- Last of the bunch of the similar panels. Zori has their hands out to Starline, still explaining, but also almost as if trying to hint at something. Tabi is just shaking their head. Zori Either way, Tabi keeps telling me it’s impossible to win if I keep doing that, and sure it’s a little frustrating, but I don’t mind. There are worse things than trying to do the impossible, you know? Panel 4- A somewhat bemused Starline who finds the situation awkward, Starline Yes, quite so. Panel 5- Now more composed and trying to take charge of the situation Starline is more or less his suave, scheming self here. His ego keeps him from questioning things here too much. Starline So, Zori and Tabi, correct? You two seem friendly enough. Allow me to introduce myself, I am- Zori Dr. Starline. Starline Ah, my reputation precedes me. Excellent. Then perhaps you can also tell me where the exit is? I feel I’ve been lost underground for ages.
