One thing that clicked: treating code as materialization of intent, not the primary artifact. I'm not writing implementations - I'm building specifications (ADRs, skills, epics and tickets) that guide the AI, often in collaboration. The design becomes the deliverable. (2/5)

Tja. Allerdings: Was muss, das muss.

I love this amazing little app. It's matured very nicely over the past couple of weeks. Give it a try on the dev server (just be ready for missing features and bugs)

Come drop by the Chatto Development space on my silly little test instance, we have regular development updates and also cookies!

(Actually just one; the session cookie. Chatto doesn't track you or phone home anywhere, sorry)

Meet me there as well. Come, join us. It's good.
So excited for this. Meet me and other venturing people on the ephemeral test instance of Chatto, an European lightweight chat/communications system.
Happy to report that the Chatto development instance is now available for testing. Go nuts (but not too nuts, k?)

If you want to give an early version of Chatto a try, you can do that this weekend. Stay tuned.

Just in case you've been wondering: yes, #Chatto is real. A full self-hostable Discordslacklike in a single 44 MB binary that runs out of the box with no external dependencies.

(Well, there may be one or two missing features still. :b)

People are surprised when I tell them Chatto doesn't use any existing chat protocols. They're even more surprised when I tell them that it doesn't try to establish any new protocol, either.

It's just a chat app for your friends, community, company. That's all. No decentralization. No federation.

One of the many reasons why I'm building a self-hostable group chat app is that this is how the top players in this space (both US-based) are marketing themselves now

Yupp.

So ähnlich wird es auch hier sein.

Testing a simple #Chatto deployment setup using Docker Compose with three load-balanced replicas. Yeah, that's around 40 MB RAM usage each. Can your self-hosted Discord clone do this? (*)

As a consultant for Enterprise Architecture, I am someone who has an eye on Business Continuity Management (BCM) and operational resiliency topics.

All the more reason to be excited for Chatto. Lightweight, easy to self-host, easy to spin up.

And: Bonus points for data-at-rest encryption. <3
It's been a couple of busy weeks for Chatto: emoji reactions, DMs, replies & threads, encryption-at-rest with per-user crypto-shredding, message editing & deletion, Markdown formatting (with syntax highlighted code blocks), and more.

Pretty good progress, hope to get this into your hands soon!

Unpopular Opinion: Arc Raiders has a thin cover of background story that thinly veils cynical design choices.

Somebody designed it, somebody gametested it, somebody published it.

I wonder who thought it nice to play out players giving other players a coup de grace after they tried to crawl away.

In our conversations about how software dev is evolving, @nklumpp.bsky.social refers to agentic AI as "engineer power armor", something that we wear to extend our capabilities; not an automaton that we stupidly interact with until it either deletes our hard disk ~or~ makes us obsolete. I like this.

I want to build something that works both for business as well as community/gaming/casual use cases. Gunning for the "typical" UX as a base and then try some things on top of that (particularly around threading, room types and the likes.)

👀 Some words about Chatto, my BIG project. It's a group chat app that

- is incredibly easy to self-host
- has very modest hardware requirements
- scales really well
- apache-2.0 license
- hosted platform launching in 2026

Looking forward to writing much more about this soon.

Let's do this. 🚀

Benutzt jemand noch XING? Ist ja die einzige offensichtliche Alternative. Wie ist es dort gerade?

But, to put it in a German's eloquence:

Tja.
The headline, the main takeaway from a European viewpoint is this:

The transatlantic relationship as we know it is over. Yes, we kinda knew this. But this is now official US White House policy. Not a sppech, not a statement. The West as it used to be no longer exists.
