The Liberals here in Australia are a laughing stock. Crushed at the last election and increasingly unpopular amongst young people, they've now ditched the pledge of net zero by 2050 thanks to the cookers in the Nationals and the right wing faction.

It's been a while since I've been here but the announcement by the #AFL yesterday has incensed me. It's just another blatant cash grab to appease betting and media companies that it relies on so much. There are so many other things that need fixing before the finals format... What a farce

No passenger information displays at stations, website and apps down across the #MelbourneTrains network. Trains not impacted thankfully so everyone can still get to the Show. #Metro

It'd be easy as a Collingwood supporter to apportion some blame for the loss on the non-call on Jamie Elliott on Saturday night's #AFL prelim final but the simple fact is Brisbane were too good and I doubt it would have made any difference. Here's to a cracking game this Saturday!

So happy I dropped Twitter like it's hot years ago. Bluesky is so much better and much less toxic.
I'll merely note that today, like all days, is a great day to stop posting on Twitter, a platform whose owner force feeds this slop into people's brains with an algorithm designed to boost his views and trample yours.

Yes! Last touch out of bounds is in next year #AFL. Such a good decision that will pay dividends for the game and put a premium on effective disposals, which we should reward more. Plus less stoppage scrimmages and reduced qtr lengths.

Damian Barrett's list of priorities for the #AFL from Sliding Doors:
- Tassie licence
- Umpires' bouncing of the ball
- Length of the game
- Snoop Dogg
- Unfair fixture
- Wildcard round
- Pre-finals bye
- Free agency compo
Here's my thoughts, for what it's worth.

Stay classy Adelaide. Seriously, I've seen some poor things in #AFL but the Crows fans booing a guy who was the VICTIM of a homophobic comment is right up there with the worst of them. Nicks' refusal to comment on it after the game says everything about how this club thinks of it too. #shameful

Yet another time that the AFL refuses to rule out a wildcard round. Does anyone seriously want this apart from those who make money off it? What's the point in the 24 round H&A season if we then give 2 more teams ANOTHER round to qualify? May as well let everyone in. #AFL

Lots of discussion out of the weekend on the state of the umpiring. Whilst I agree it has not improved with 4 umpires, the AFL has neglected them for too long. We need to look past the umpires themselves and at the root cause of the problem - the rules and their support structures. #AFL #umpiring

So the latest from the #AFL is that they want to do an in-season tournament, somewhat like the NBA and English football, to cater for the fa.... I mean, fatten up their hip pockets. Seriously, I haven't seen a management group this disconnected than....actually let me think about that

People will build a list of “good male role models” and somehow not notice they’ve built a list of the exact model of guy that Joe Rogan fans were rebelling against.

Not sure how many #AFL fans there are on here but I have a real bee in my bonnet recently.
There's been a lot of talk recently about implementing a wild card round between the H&A season and the Finals Series. Whilst I'm all for progress in the game, this is a real dud for many different reasons.

Adam Selwood's death has really floored me the last 24 hours. Just three months after his brother, it's just so sad, it's beyond words really. Sending so much love to his family and loved ones. Reach out to your mates, check if they're okay. We lose too many this way. #AFL #itsokaytonotbeokay

Lots of talk about #afl umpiring recently. One solution proposed was a captain's challenge. This doesn't solve anything - we need to make meaningful changes to the rules. Get rid of prior opportunity, make it last touch out of bounds is a turnover free kick. Easier to officiate, higher scoring.

Urgh, these ginormous trucks are such a scourge on our roads and are a massive failure of policy. Rather than make carparks longer, impose length limits on these monsters that serve no purpose other than dick-measuring against other assholes #auspol #dumpthetrucks

Favourite song - Everybody Knows That You're Insane
Sleeper - Long Slow Goodbye
Filler level - so much good with Medication, Little Sister, Burn the Witch, In My Head. Just a little bit too much fluff though to really shape up to Songs for the Deaf and Rated R
Rating - 9/10

With highs just as high as its predecessor but just a little bit too much filler, Lullabies to Paralyze is another #QOTSA classic. This is a little more fun and games than the heavier Songs for the Deaf. Still some heavier bangers to satiate your thirst though!
February 13, 2025 at 2:19 PM
Songs for the Deaf was a distinct change in style for #QOTSA - heavier than before with some sweet melodies and strangeness. I particularly love all the radio interludes, a nod to the Kyuss touring days. Very strong start too with Millionaire, No One Knows and First It Giveth.

Geez what a shocking 24 hours for the #AFL - Vale Troy Selwood, Dale Tapping and Adam Hunter. Thoughts are with their families and loved ones at this difficult time.

Rated R was an incredible upgrade in musicianship and production quality. It moved away from stoner rock into the quirky, heavy style that epitomises #qotsa. Features a lot of talk of drugs and alcohol, something Josh Homme has struggled with for years.
January 29, 2025 at 9:03 PM
Kicking off with the self-titled album, Queens of the Stone Age, is pretty raw and there's a lot of experimentation in there. A solid debut with clear links to Homme's first band Kyuss but with the weirdness that #QOTSA would become known for.

Re-listening to Queens of the Stone Age all the way from first album to latest. Somehow got back into them after not listening to anything for a couple of years.
Man, these guys are incredible. They just don't sound like anything else out there (except maybe for Josh's first band Kyuss) #qotsa

Been digesting the news of Rick Shiels signing with LIV as an ambassador and I'm just disappointed. Having criticised LIV a lot to then selling out, effectively supporting a bigoted, women hating regime with an horrific human rights record, is just disappointing. #golf #youtubegolf

Just saw a comparison between Canada and Australia that someone had done on Facebook and it listed Rugby League as the sport of choice. People getting so triggered by it on both the AFL and NRL sides. So I thought I'd do a quick comparison between the two. #AFL #NRL #comparison
