I remember seeing a documentary on TLC about the Channel Tunnel & it showed this historic accomplishment. I had to go to YouTube to watch the original video. Since my first ride on Eurostar back in 1999, it still amazes me how this tunnel was constructed & the workers who toiled to get it done.
Heading into the Channel Tunnel today on train 9044 and celebrating a historic moment: on 1 December 1990, 35 years ago, French and British teams broke through and met under the sea for the first time. Thanks to their achievement, our Eurostar trains now cross the Channel in 20 minutes.

Happy 31st Birthday eurostar! On this day in 1994, the first commercial services started. 2 trains a day each way between London and Paris/Brussels back then.

Nice shoes! Back when eurostar started, there was no high-speed line between London and the Channel Tunnel so we had to use the "classic" network and the 750 volt third rail system. This limited the power and speed obviously. Heard it described as using a Ferrari to go to the corner shop...

One of those days. The last train from Amsterdam ended up diverted twice on its way to Brussels due to problems on the line. End result was a 98 minute late arrival into London. Sorry if you were affected. I've now got the dubious pleasure of the 00:32 home instead of the 22:39...
