Many Americans don’t get low-tech, locally appropriate cooling. In my no-AC arid CA childhood home, we had a protocol: windows wide open all night; then closed and curtains drawn till it got hotter inside than out, usually ~5-6pm. Never could convince my East Coast AC-acclimated roommates it works.
