Signwriter and hobby potter in Cambridgeshire UK. Two dogs, too many cats. Also known as Hatley Signs and Hatley Pottery in other places.
A couple of times a week I try to engage with transphobes in the comments of things so that their views are at least challenged a bit. For the last few weeks it’s been on FB 🤢 and it used to result in a slew of awful notifications and abuse but this week there were only two. Checked my activity log.

Dogs: predators descended from wolves.
Quincy: eats cauliflower.

It’s lettering like this that makes me really wish we still had leaded paint. Second coat tomorrow. #signwriting

Lost Quincy for an hour in the woods yesterday; he was following scents so intently that he completely ignored me even when close, before taking himself home. Dick.
But standing silently in the woods waiting, three hares loped past my feet in the gloom. I could have reached down and touched them.

Watching Sky’s Landscape Artist of the Year and they’re at St Pancras basin, where I lived on a boat for several years in the late 90’s early 00’s. I left before the big renovations and it’s so different now. Nostalgic and homesick.

This is huge. My petition got approved. It challenges the UK government to the lift the Puberty Blocker ban on the grounds that it contradicts article 8 of The United Nations Convention On The Rights Of The Child.

The pottery aim for this year is a set of dinnerware. It’s taken me a month to get eight side plates and six bowls in the first edition of tests and possibilities so with shapes to try out, glazes to test and then the whole making thing, I should be done by 2031.

Every night for the last week there’ve been night sounds like something small being murdered nearby, but the same sound every night. Hunted through the bird song apps and I think it might be a water rail 😃 All the old moats and drainage ditches are full so it could easily be mistaken for wetlands.

Just finished sewing in the ends on the new gloves. They’re so lofty and soft, looking forward to wearing them out tomorrow, when they will soon be covered in mud.

In the space of a week sign work has gone from pretty quiet to holy shit I need more shelving. The hope of more pottery time for this year may be more of a fight than I’d predicted.

It’s never a good sign when there are three electricity company trucks parked up opposite the workshop 😬

After knitting new gloves for Murph, I’m making myself a new pair too. This is BFL yarn, handspun from fluff inherited from the much missed Liz (greensideknits).

Chaffinches and bluetits topped our list but of course our ‘prize’ birds decided not to make an appearance! Five minutes after we stopped, the great spotted woodpeckers came back and a sparrowhawk swept through 😂

I'm still learning this app, but I'm so amazed at the number of amazing artists that have found space here. I tried making a starter pack, so if you want to be added to it, send me a message!

Bought one of those expensive microfibre doormats in an effort to avoid cleaning the floor, but just watched three cats come in, perch on the very edge of the catflap and launch themselves right over it. Ffs.

The bird feeders are less busy today, not because of the weather but because it’s the RSPB Garden Birdwatch this weekend so everyone in the village has put out The Good Stuff.
