If you live in the US and you’re white, unless you’re very lucky, you’re dealing with the awareness that a good-size chunk of your family not only would go Nazi if given the chance, but were given the chance and took it without any hesitation, and are Nazis now, so that’s what they were all along.

"CBP’s arrest and misconduct rate is 5 TIMES higher than other federal law enforcement agencies — and, in fact, if you look over the last decade, the arrest rate of CBP officers and Border Patrol agents (.5%) has been HIGHER than the arrest rate of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. (.4%)."
Curious why ICE and CBP agents are so brutal? Here's a useful explainer I wrote last week, before Saturday's outrageous murder, about how uniquely unsuited ICE and CBP are for this moment—and why they were so corruptible into Trump's own fascist secret police: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/ice-101-ho...
"ICE 101" — How Trump changed ICE and CBP into a fascist secret police
ICE and CBP are fatally flawed products of the post-9/11 War on Terror — now Trump has weaponized those very flaws to occupy America.

In Minneapolis, one man knew immediately what he could offer and said “Bring me your clothing”.

If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this:

America's problems are solved problems. Just not here.

What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧵

AI is like a simulacrum of tech leaders themselves: superficially impressive until they start talking about a field you know, at which point it's clearly shallow and ill-informed. Most business uses of LLMs require a *lot* of time tweaking inputs and error-correcting outputs.
The latest Duke CFO survey shows that the vast majority of CFOs are seeing no impact from AI on labor productivity, decision-making speed, customer satisfaction, or time spent on high-value-added tasks

A major part of the Q3 4.3% GDP growth was consumer spending. The majority increase in consumer spending came from healthcare spending. People spending too much on healthcare and getting everything done before the Republicans take away their health insurance.

Thinking today about this sentence:

"Every $100 increase in median rent is associated with a 9 percent increase in the estimated homelessness rate, according to a 2020 report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office."
Inflation is making homelessness worse
Rising housing costs, combined with persistent inflation for basic necessities like gas and food, have left more Americans newly homeless and millions more fearing they’ll soon lose their homes.

This is such a great video by @hatethegamebook.com I wish I had made it myself. A quick TLDR:

Firms feel uncertainty ➡️ They hold onto workers and don't create new jobs ➡️ Less demand for entry level workers
Applying for jobs and hearing nothing back? 😩
It's not you it's the economy. We are in a hiring recession.
In this video, I explain:
- Why this hits new grads hardest.
- The impact on wage negotiation.
- Why it’s time to think like an entrepreneur.
