I'm running deepseek-r1 14b locally and, while it is so so slow, it's neat to watch it "think" about the given code problem. I managed to solve my rust mutable borrowing issue faster than it could finish "thinking" about the problem but reading it's thinking helped me get there

One thing I enjoy about the state of AI development is Big Tech spending a gajillion dollars to create transhuman Übermensch and ending up with gossipy gifted kids who spill their system prompt and can’t wait to tell you all the cool stuff they half remember from school

Wat doesn't support no_std so I can't parse wat files to wasm binaries on my pico... Buuut if I compile wat to wasm then I can run wat inside tinywasm on my pico? Lets find out!

Part of the problem is past Waterloo councils held property taxes at near inflation for two decades while piling up infrastructure deficits. The voting choices of previous generations now means we have to pick up the tab. I'd rather not pass it on to another.

Circuses, not bread: Doug Ford is distracting you from his abysmal record on his signature issue — housing — which he has no plan to tackle. Instead, we get wedge issues and beer ahead of a spring election. Vote on his record, not on pomp and rhetoric. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
Matt Elliott: Doug Ford wants you to focus on bike lanes and beer — and pay no attention to this, his biggest failure
Like the Wizard of Oz, Ontario’s premier wants you to look away from what’s actually not happening in this province.

Beyond the original recipe 99pi episodes, Power Broker, & Con Law, in 2024 we also produced an incredible miniseries about the systems under strain due to climate change called Not Built for This. Hosted by Emmett FitzGerald, it's truly the best work we've done

Hearing @andyjayhawk.bsky.social on decoder talk about Elon Musk as someone who can "bring Trump over to a less climate antagonistic position" leaves me with a bit of hope. But this quote seems to be coming true:

Trump names fossil fuel executive Chris Wright as energy secretary
President-elect Donald Trump has selected Chris Wright, a campaign donor and fossil fuel executive, to serve as energy secretary after his second administration begins in January.

Region of Waterloo’s latest cycling plan is puzzling
Why, as we wrestle with a proposed 12 per cent tax increase, would we believe an upgrade is needed for something that already meets the gold standard? asks Mike Farwell.

every art form goes through early innovation, and then you have to stop worrying about reinventing the wheel from first principles every time, and you have to go into phase 2, which is generally considered the golden age of an art form, where we know how to DO things now, so innovation shifts.
