I love my local indie bookstore!
Fellow authors, I love you, and I know it feels like we don’t have a choice, but B&N and Am*zon both scheduled sales this week to preempt Independent Bookstore Day, a hugely vital source of income for indie bookstores. Please don’t promote their sales; please promote your local indie this week.

If you want to give hot takes on how American journalists can do better, go ahead and pull up job postings for media professionals in a smaller American city.

1. What do the positions pay?
2. How many positions are there

Then do a Google search for media layoffs.

Oh yeah and everyone hates us.

Emailing potential sources for stories right now be like: "Given the continuous unfolding of more newsworthy and important events, could you make time for a Google meet with some nerd who wants to ask questions about robots?"

What's really telling about digital marketing is that to sell website accessibility to CEOs who would rather leave their WordPress sites unattended and open to malicious code than hire a creative, the search engine has to be higher on the priority list than the person needing accessibility
And - digital marketing professional here - images on alt text are prioritized by search engines! Alt Text, and being accessible in general, is good for reach and impact!

Elon: Are you ready to go extremely hardcore

Worker: I mostly sort the mail

The best thing about teaching a coms course about How to Use The Internet Intelligently is that you might have to scrap half of the content in Chapter 3 of the textbook (Pub date: 2023) for all of the new information that has already made it obsolete.
