NASA image release June 16, 2011 Resembling looming rain clouds on a stormy day, dark lanes of dust crisscross the giant elliptical galaxy Centaurus A. Hubble's panchromatic vision, stretching from ultraviolet through near-infrared wavelengths, reveals the vibrant glow of young, blue star clusters and a glimpse into regions normally obscured by the dust. The warped shape of Centaurus A's disk of gas and dust is evidence for a past collision and merger with another galaxy. The resulting shockwaves cause hydrogen gas clouds to compress, triggering a firestorm of new star formation. These are visible in the red patches in this Hubble close-up. At a distance of just over 11 million light-years, Centaurus A contains the closest active galactic nucleus to Earth. The center is home for a supermassive black hole that ejects jets of high-speed gas into space, but neither the supermassive or the jets are visible in this image. This image was taken in July 2010 with Hubble's Wide Field Camera 3. The Hubble Space Telescope is a project of international cooperation between NASA and the European Space Agency. NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center manages the telescope. The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) conducts Hubble science operations. This image is centered on the dusty clouds between the Orion Nebula (Messier 42) and the Running Man Nebula (Sharpless 279) and is a mosaic of two images taken on separate nights in February 2017 To the right is the bright Orion Nebula, the closest stellar factory to us, located some 1350 light-years away in the constellation Orion. Here new stars are born out of the dense clouds of gas and dust, and the youngest and brightest stars that we see now are only between 10,000 and a few hundred thousand years old. The nebula is illuminated primarily by the four bright young stars visible in the centre, which form a small cluster called the Trapezium. The radiation pressure from these young stars have sculpted a vast cavity with brightly coloured glowing walls that we see from Earth as the familiar shape of the Orion Nebula. The nebula is also known as Messier 42 or NGC 1976 and is one of the brightest nebulae in the sky, easily visible just south of Orion's Belt using even the smallest binoculars. It is approximately 24 light years across and forms part of the much larger Orion Molecular Cloud Complex - a huge clump of very cold gas that has a total mass of about 2000 times that of the Sun. The gas from this cloud slowly collapses due to gravity and stars are formed. Whenever a bright new star is formed, its strong light evaporates the opaque gaseous surroundings it formed from, thus allowing us to see it. The stars were blurred/averaged and then shrunk down with a "minimum" filter so I could get just their color without the huge halo. I did some color balancing, as well. It's not ideal. It still looks pretty good, though. Viel stärkeres Polarlicht über Bochum gerade gegen 4:30 MEZ - jetzt waren die rosa glühenden Felder auch für's bloße Auge sichtbar, sogar farbig! Und das trotz der Bochumer Lichtverschmutzung und eines abnehmenden Halbmonds hoch am Himmel. Aufnahmen freihändig ein paar Sekunden mit dem Handy.

The center of the Carina Nebula, with the bright star Eta Carinae and the Keyhole feature, in H-alpha. Data taken from the backyard at home, ~15 km from Sydney's city centre, on Monday 19th and Tuesday 21st April 2020. Equipment: Skywatcher Black Diamond 80 (F=600mm, f/7.5), Skywatcher AZ-EQ6 (mount), ZWO ASI178MC (main camera), ZWO ASI120MM + Orion 50mm guidescope (guiding), 2" Baader ultra-narrow (3.5 nm) H-alpha filter, and ASIair controlling everything (using my son's iPad). This image combines 35 x 600s light frames, and 30 x 600s dark frames. Aligned and stacked with SiriL, stretching, colour contrast, saturation, levels, and luminosity with Photoshop.

Here's another image from the extensive survey of protostars in Orion A. There are some interesting dynamics going on here and a number of stars shining on structures to provide insight into the three dimensional nature of the nebula. It's sometimes hard to get out of flatland when viewing these. I've put a few things of interest in some of the notes. Of particular interest is the butterfly-shaped flow in the lower-left quadrant. Make sure you hover the central star on that. There's more there but I'm about to fall asleep at my computer as I write this. All channels: WFC3 IR F160W North is NOT up. It is 26.3° counter-clockwise from up.
