I contributed a chapter titled "Not Afraid to Show a Savage Face" about the evolution of Andy Cohen's narrative voice from the start of Silkworm through a palpable change in the Touch & Go years. It took a lot of restraint not to spill the beans on this book!

I saw someone close their trunk in a busy parking lot, so I stopped and put my signal on. A woman drove around me, saw that a car was pulling out, and made hand gestures like “Are you taking this spot?” Hmm if only there was some way to know

There’s a dog trainer with three young dogs in the field by the dog park, and those pups are being incredibly well behaved, especially considering the half dozen dogs being total idiots inside the dog park.

I did the thing again (impromptu half marathon).
I needed to run 8.1 miles outside to hit 500 for the year, and with colder weather coming up, today seemed like a potential last window. Then once I started going, I thought “What’s five more, really?”
I also hit 1000 total for 2025.

Watching Bad Lieutenant and consumed by two thoughts: 1. Now he’d probably just be “Regular Lieutenant” 2. The thought of early ’90s Harvey Keitel as being your dad is absolutely chilling

Working on my grocery list and I spaced on the word "ricotta" for the second time in my life doing this exact same task. I remembered that in the previous instance I wrote "wet cheese" on the list and it drove my wife nuts, and then I remembered the word "ricotta."

The new Twilight Sad single is both a superbly crafted rocker and an uncharacteristically open handling of James Graham's grief. Usually his lines float through a mist of obfuscation, but "Waiting for the phone call, telling me, are you gone?" and "Watch me die / no goodbyes" are painfully familiar.

Currently working out to Rambo III, on which Sylvester Stallone fired numerous crew because he’s thin-skinned, and I’m choosing to believe that Battles / Tomahawk / Helmet drummer John Stanier was the replacement cinematographer

I ran 94 miles in October, 90 of which was outside. Up to 968 on the year, 472 of which is outdoors. Hopefully the weather stays agreeable enough for five more outside runs.
My knees felt it more this month and I probably should have rested more, but I needed to run for my mental health.

We don’t get that many Trick or Treaters (unlike back in Massachusetts where we’d regularly get 100-120), so I put out a bowl while my kids are out and I’m walking Gordie. I didn’t put up a regulatory message but I like the idea of “Take only what you need to survive”

The original title of Sonic Youth’s “Death Valley 69” was “Death Valley 69 (The Sex Number),” and it briefly had everyone shout “The sex number!” after each iteration of the chorus

During June I watched 10 films from my list of 100 for 2025, getting me up to 66 total. I'd sift them as follows:
Autumn Sonata
A Woman Under the Influence
Grave of the Fireflies
All Quiet on the Western Front
The Lost Weekend
Le Corbeau
Duck Soup
L'Atalante
Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
Snatch

Crossed another 11 films off my list of 100 for the year during May and would sift them roughly:
Portrait of a Lady on Fire
It Happened One Night
Holiday
Her
The Irishman
Paper Moon
Body Heat
The Magnificent Ambersons
The Power of the Dog
The Woman in the Window
The Idiot
