At least one study has shown that having to smile and perform happiness for patrons and customers shreds your mental health and leads to higher rates of drinking and substance abuse. What does it say about the fragility of Americans that everyone must smile at them constantly?
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.
They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.
If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."
🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.

Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

You’ve probably heard the argument that the earth’s climate has always been changing. That is true, but never this fast. Not even close.

More than a million people every week show suicidal intent when chatting with ChatGPT, OpenAI estimates
Finding is one of most direct statements from the tech company on how AI can exacerbate mental health issues
More than a million ChatGPT users each week send messages that include “explicit indicators of potential suicidal planning or intent”, according to a blogpost published by OpenAI on Monday. The finding, part of an update on how the chatbot handles sensitive conversations, is one of the most direct statements from the artificial intelligence giant on the scale of how AI can exacerbate mental health issues.
In addition to its estimates on suicidal ideations and related interactions, OpenAI also said that about 0.07 of users active in a given week – about 560,000 of its touted 800m weekly users – show “possible signs of mental health emergencies related to psychosis or mania”. The post cautioned that these conversations were difficult to detect or measure, and that this was an initial analysis. Continue reading...

Largely driven by extreme weather
Further developments will not be linear...

Why food prices are still rising: butter, beef and milk to blame
Household staples including butter, coffee, milk and chocolate are driving food price inflation, with extreme weather playing a part in pushing up the cost of living.
