I heard a firsthand account of an elder Picasso stealing from the till at a retrospective of his work so in a very real sense we may need to abandon the myth that art pays.

I've been trying to get my version of the Bechdel Test to catch on called the Ballard Metric. It basically asks if the creator was able to work for free or for slave wages due to an invisible financial safety net and recontextualizes the work. (I'm kinda joking idk)
Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.

The only thing money is good for is to build a house and fill it with expensive sculptures of Will Vinton's "M&Ms" characters. Lining the halls like suits of armor, depictions in tapestries, eyes bejeweled by sapphires

i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times

Incidentally I had always assumed Vince Clortho was one of the cultists who lived in the building who gave up his form to be a dog monster but turns out it is "Vinz" and he is also 5000 years old

There's something maybe built into the structure of media that makes art feel competitive but I reject this!!! Dumb and not fun. Everyone do whatever, subject to getting pulled off the stage by a big hook but Come Back Next Week.

A consistent struggle: I actually really like cook AND find ways to cook healthy and think about what I'm doin' with the vegetables n sides, but I always make way too much which ends up going bad and it's like throwing life/money/every step of this in the toilet. I have no diners' club.
