Hello new folks! Thanks for stopping by. Sometimes I post about biochemistry, but it’s mostly cats/classical music/books/things in my garden here. Live from Cornwall. Beardy, generally worn down by academia.

I’ll DM you my details. You should let me cover the cost of postage, at least. Or let me know a favourite charity of yours.

Hey, that's awesome, you've definitely captured him there. Let me know if you want to sell it.

Morning Alan, delighted with my recent purchase, thank you.

That's interesting. Is it the same for 'loan' and 'borrow' for native German speakers? (I've had various German colleagues over the years asking me to 'borrow them' something).

Do we need to rethink the QA quenching model of chlorophyll fluorescence? Probably not, but here's a provocative chin stroker from Győző Garab.

Revisiting the QA model of chlorophyll-a fluorescence induction: new perspectives to monitor the photochemical activity and structural dynamics of photosystem II - Photosynthesis Research
The technique of chlorophyll-a fluorescence induction (ChlF) is widely used in plant biology. The ‘mainstream’, so-called QA model of ChlF, posits that the reaction centers (RCs) of Photosystem-II (PS...

It's all fun and games until someone finds an eye.

No fireworks here for miles around, (it frightens the livestock), so here’s some bonus Grandpa Ginger content for you.

Subtle nod of acknowledgment from across the room.

Don't expect anything from the Royal Society other than the sound of papers being shuffled and throats cleared.

So one of us (not me) got wrongly imprisoned in a shed for four days. He said he used his time incarcerated to reflect on becoming a better person.
The first (1955) Danish edition of Ray Bradbury’s FAHRENHEIT 451. Later editions did not convert the title, so this is the only SI-compatible edition! 🎢

Word was when I was there that the foundations of the chapel are extremely shallow, but that may be entirely apocryphal. (It has yet to fall down, anyway).

Understandable!

So does anyone else eat their avocados with salt and vinegar? (As a treat mind you, I’m not made of money).

I like the idea of being galactic compost.

😬

Possibly one of the Coriolaceae - Giant Polypore?

The academic experience.

Looking forward to putting all the cats back an hour tonight.

12 September 1910, Munich. The Mahler 8 premiere conducted by the man himself.

When I was doing my PhD, back in the last century, we had something green growing in a bottle of 10% (w/v) SDS. We christened it the 'SDS plant'. A tough little bugger whatever it was.
