5/5: Lots of fun with an interesting cast. Enjoyed the mild alternate history elements as well.

4* for The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie. I remain deeply impressed at how deftly he can outline a character in a few short sentences.

Review of The Atlas Six: the premise is intriguing, the characters well-drawn & the meshing of magic with mundane well done. On the other hand, not a lot happens & the ending resolves little. To borrow a phrase from the author, it felt like a gigantic thought experiment rather than a plot.

3 โญ๏ธs for The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. Prose was lovely, characters well drawn, and I particularly liked the NYC setting. However, certain techniques became repetitive and the narrative lacked dramatic tension.

With the ongoing enshittification of social media, the increased algorithmic nature of everything, and the rise of plagiarism software (so-called โ€œAIโ€ and LLMs) itโ€™s becoming ever harder to make an impact as a creative person. So if you are a fan of the arts, hereโ€™s a bunch of ways you can help:

Cruel Nights by Jason Nahrung is unlike any vampire story Iโ€™ve read before, and his handling of the story is both beautiful and brutal. Highly recommended. www.goodreads.com/book/show/20...

Only 2 weeks until the release of The Final Shroud. After years of effort, it'll be amazing to see the entire story in print. You can nab a copy here: mybook.to/Salt_Lines If the budget is tight, both ebooks cost less than 4 coffees, and they'll keep you stimulated for way longer. Promise.๐Ÿ˜„
