The #WW1 #Armistice isn't always mentioned in the log-books of #RoyalNavy ships.
HMS Rinaldo did, though.

1.30pm: Guns fired from batteries denoting signing of armistice. Dressed ship overall

HMS Albermarle was struck by a storm on her way from Rosyth to Scapa Flow.
She was heavily damaged, lost 2 men overboard, including Commander Nixon, suffered another casualty on board, and 3 officers and 16 men were seriously injured.

#OTD 1 November 1914: #WW1 Battle of Coronel.

HMS Glasgow and HMS Otranto participated in the battle, in which HMS Good Hope and HMS Monmouth were lost.

HMS Orama was torpedoed by German submarine U-62 and sank.

From her log-book:
5.55pm: Ship torpedoed in number 3 hold
8.00pm: Hands abandon ship in boats
9.50pm: Navigator and Captain left ship
9.55pm: Ship sunk

#OTD 28 August 1914: #WW1 Battle of the Helgioland Bight.

HMS Invincible took part in the battle.
She first recorded activities of HMS Lion and HMS New Zealand in her log-book, and then she engaged and sank a German light cruiser herself.

#OTD 20 August 1919: As part of Admiral Jellicoe's world tour, HMS New Zealand arrives at Wellington, New Zealand.
In the next week and a half thousands upon thousands visitors came on board to see her; 94,476 in all according to her log-book.

Under the command of Captain Schley, conning her from the crow's nest while searching for gaps in the ice, the rescue expedition led by Thetis managed to rescue 7 of the 25 members of Greely expedition and get back 6 of them in the United States.

A really awesome piece of #navalhistory

USS Yorktown (PG-1) years 1908-09 have been added.
Operations along the west coast of all the Americas, survey work at Galapagos Islands, and became part of the Nicaraguan Expeditionary Squadron.

In all her journeys now cover 1889-1909.

#OTD 23 April 1918: As part of the #WW1 Zeebrugge Raid outer patrol, HMS Attentive picked up an Engineering Lieutenant and 11 men from HMS Sirius at 6.20am.
HMS Sirius was sunk as blockship.
