@iso-ne.com returned to “normal” last night (Feb 11, 9pm), but is still under the federal “emergency” free pass to pollute exemption until this Saturday at midnight.

Bike life hack: bike snow bath:
1. Salt & grime buildup
2. Drag bike through snow, both sides
3. Put in sun to melt

Car culture in NewtonMA frames the climate discourse as trees vs housing, with parking pavement getting a free pass.

Appreciating advocates calling our @streets.boston.gov @boston.gov abdicating responsibility, AND @bostonu.bsky.social bears responsibility too. If it comes down to something as important as public safety, stop pointing fingers; plow it and reduce our PILOT contribution accordingly if need be.

An epic thread on an epic action. TY @thebostonlol.bsky.social for documenting (& shoveling), BUrbanists for agitating, @bikeboston.bsky.social for organizing, @Bos_Cafe_Bikers, BU Cycle Kitchen for muscle, hot cocoa & tunes, & Carmen Rondash for showing up impromptu with the snow blower!

First, context, Commonwealth Av is the backbone of Boston University and around the BU Cycle Kitchen is one of the best protected and heavily used bike lanes in all of Boston. It's protected by curbs and separate from the sidewalk and this is what it looked like yesterday. Unpassable

Team members…hoped BU’s admin would…condemn Segal’s comments, but that wasn’t said in the meeting. “I just wish they had been able to say, this is not an institution that supports racial profiling or racism or xenophobia, and we didn’t get that. At the bare minimum, that should have been expected.”

As proud of our outspoken students standing for human decency as ashamed at cowardly @bostonu.bsky.social higher-ups protecting fascists while begging faculty to hide pride flags & throwing lgbtq community under the bus. Gross.

Just a reminder that using Boston's most used bike lanes for snow storage a week after a snow storm is a choice. We have the technology!
Oh and we absolutely have mini snow plows to do snow removal from bike lanes in Boston. Again this is from years ago (December 2020) as we haven't had much snow in recent years

This is from a walk audit on Cummins Highway. Most pedestrians were using the bike lane as the sidewalks weren't clear

Fun fact: we are in the midst of the first ever “trump free pass to pollute” order (Sec. 202c of Fed Power Act) requested by @iso-ne.com in its nearly 30 years of existence, even though this cold snap is far from unprecedented, & this is the longest M/LCC2 “abnormal condition” status in ISO history.

Not only didn’t they clear the bike lanes, they actually mounded snow into the bike lanes from driveways. Now scooters & bikes are taking Comm Ave. Someone’s going to get killed & @boston.gov & @bostonu.bsky.social will have blood on their hands. @mayorwu.boston.gov
It's just embarrassing that @boston.gov has abandoned pedestrians, bus riders, and bikers in snow clearance. Comm Av is one of the heaviest bike corridors in Boston year round and it's unpassable @wutrain.bsky.social @ruthzee.bsky.social @clrhenrysantana.bsky.social @universalhub.com
