Bare. Minimum. The Court said he could pay partially or use AVAILABLE FUNDS to pay all SNAP benefits.

He chose cruelty.
Hey folks..

I'll keep this short and simple.

I want you to remember that the current president of the United States is doing the absolute bare minimum required by court order to ensure that American citizens are not suffering.

Remember that.

Representative Garbarino needs to get to work along with the rest of his Republican colleagues. Not getting your way while holding so much power is NO REASON to hold government hostage. They refuse to negotiate. They refuse to show up at all.

They are not entitled to—so they must earn—their seats.

Election strategies do not matter if Democrats are not presenting an alternative. As a New York resident, I could have had two Republican Senators on March 14th, and the votes and non-effort to amend the bill would have been indistinguishable from what Senators Schumer and Gillibrand did [clip: NYT]

Justifications for this relate to Constitutionality or permissibility within statutes, but what we need to address is the kind of country we want to be. Speech is not a right granted by any government to any person.

When governments recognize rights it is to prevent themselves from violating them.

Uphold due process & 1A rights. Demand release of Mahmoud Khalil.
Text SIGN PCFBKG to 50409 — We are now in the territory of Pastor Niemoller's famous poem: First they came for the Communists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Communist Then they came for the Socialists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist Then they came for the Jews And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me Trump's bigotry is coming for everyone: for trade unions, for a list of words, for research. The detention of Mahmoud Khalil by ICE is a violation of the rule of law and due process. Khalil has been charged with no offense. What happened to the rule of law? What happened to the first amendment? (It prohibits Congress from making laws respecting an establishment of religion; prohibiting the free exercise of religion; or abridging the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, the freedom of assembly, or the right to petition the government for redress of grievances. ) If you let due process and the rule of law be overturned for Mahmoud Khalil, who will be next? This is not just an issue for Mr Khalil, not just an issue for New York State. Hold hearings and bring ICE agents in to answer questions under oath. Make additional funding for ICE contingent on accountability and legality. If you do nothing you are complicit in the death of the rule of law and the rise of tyranny

Junior Republican Senate Whip Chuck Schumer miscalculated gravely signing the execution order for Government Programs… to ensure that no one would UNLAWFULLY kill Government Programs. Now that the funding has legislative approval, discontent with cuts will be shared and Trump actions legitimized.

Representatives need to represent their districts. That’s the job. When they choose to depart from representing and stand on personal values, they ought to be able to justify those actions to their constituents as well.

Representative Garbarino has not been representing me, so I want to hear why.

If Judge Dale Ho supports the DOJ's argument that practically means "Doing Trump's bidding is more important than delivering justice," then other public officials will likely feel emboldened to commit or continue unlawful acts, as long as their actions align with the President's objectives [source🧵]

If the point of all this were truly to eliminate ineptitude, maybe someone should have fired the people executing unintentional, and often unlawful firings.
Accidentally fired the guys running the nuclear program.

Accidentally fired experienced air traffic controllers.

Accidentlly fired the people trying to contain the bird flu....

Accidentally fired...
JUST IN: USDA says it accidentally fired several officials working on bird flu.

"We are working to swiftly rectify the situation and rescind those letters," a spokesperson says.

I love @resist.bot, okay? I LOVE IT.

However, there are more and less effective ways to use it. Take an extra couple minutes to reframe the letters to suit your circumstances and the constituency of the recipient politician whenever you can. It will get more attention.

Legislation will sometimes require broad, loosely defined mandates for executive agencies: make water drinkable or keep food and drugs healthful.
However, we should not accept looseness in how or whether these departments are administered. We cannot afford an unconstrained executive.

At least one of the Inspectors General illegally removed by Trump was investigating a Musk-owned company, showing that the billionaire’s choice to bankroll Trump does, in fact, put him above the law.

What an investment!

I think the real issue is this deterministic view that many Democrats seem to have that getting the “right words” is messaging. It is a step, but there are no perfect words, so the brunt of the work is shifting public opinion, not relying on a phrase to do the heavy lifting.
And for the love of god stop using phrases like global warming and labels like DEI. Dems are famously bad at labeling and summarizing issues. Rs turn those mistakes into catchy ridicule and memes, distracting from the issues themselves.

One of the reasons why so many established media houses are not accurate in reporting how bad things are: because the facts sound deranged. Doesn’t make them less true. But try pitching a piece „one of Musk‘s guys is linked to a literal pedophile Nazi cyber crime ring“ and see how that goes.

Absurd to cut funding to something because of the importance of funding that thing.
This will not deliver the US's stated goal to "have the best medical research in the world" and "to ensure that as many funds as possible go towards direct scientific research," because *less* research will be done.

The firing is clearly illegal under a 2022 law.

The administration is saying that they don't need to follow the law because they, and not the courts, get to decide what which laws are constitutional. It is no different than their saying that they, and not Congress, determine spending.

Of course RFK Jr should not be HHS Sec.

How about Rep Weldon for CDC? Before “merit-based America,” you could be an MD with a Master’s in Public Health, serving as Chief of the Division of Infectious Disease at a hospital and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and lead CDC, but now…
