NEW from @bmietana.bsky.social, @alejacorazonhm.bsky.social and me: Viral warnings of planned ICE raids on churches have pastors worried.

And yes, we did some digging about *that* viral church raids story that has been floating around. religionnews.com/2025/11/20/v...
Viral warnings of planned ICE raids on churches have pastors worried
(RNS) — Rumors and viral reports about potential ICE raids have immigrant church leaders worried about their congregations. DHS says it doesn’t have plans to raid churches — but won’t rule it out.

Yeah, it does seem plausible as a scenario. But when the SBC rep denied that a meeting took place that pretty much negates the anonymous pastors. And it's hard to imagine this one reporter got 3 DOJ anonymous sources from different New England states.

I haven’t found confirmation of this story anywhere else. And the journalism is suspicious to me. Read with caution.

We welcome immigrants to pick produce and hit home runs but we won’t welcome them as our neighbors or fellow church members. Why do we need to see someone’s papers before we can see their humanity?

We are at a turning point in the USA.

Will we turn back to the biblical gospel that speaks truth and extends grace to society?

Or will we turn to a perverted gospel that syncretizes our worldly allegiances with a thin veneer of Christian morality?

Really interesting. I agree with you on MT Esther. I’ve written on how to harmonize languages and cultures in one church rather than assimilating. Assimilation maintains the cultural blinders of the dominant group and erases the identities of the minority group. Thanks for sharing your work.

Inside The Ends and Means Email:

Is the Great Commission for "over there" or for "over here"?

It's obviously both, but which one has been more neglected in modern missions discussions?

Daniel and his friends didn't rise to prominence because they ate vegetables. They were elevated to prominent positions because God gave them strength and wisdom.
The Faith of the Exiles in Daniel One
Today, 122.6 million people around the world have been forcibly displaced from their homes.1 Individuals, families, and entire people groups are forced to live in exile. Many who are fleeing for their lives are our brothers and sisters in Christ. Their experience has similarities to that of Daniel and his friends who were Jewish exiles in Babylon in 605 B.C.

I’m looking for books on diaspora missiology from a North American context written in past 2-3 years.

Is The Great Commission for Over There or Over Here?
Before William Carey popularized Matthew 28:18-20 as THE Great Commission, most Christians largely ignored this mandate. They neglected to make disciples of all nations. If God wants to convert the heathen (as one skeptic admonished Carey) He will do it without consulting you and me! Photo by Aymane Hanni on Pexels.com Is it possible that Western Christians have now made an equally devastating mistake concerning the Great Commission?

Rachel Karten's recent article, “Legacy Media Companies Need a New Social Playbook,” explores a fundamental shift in how social media platforms and websites interact. Historically, media organizations used social media (Point A) to drive traffic to their websites (Point B).

Certainly should not be a crime. But it is terrible sportsmanship. If it's not what I would teach my children to do coaching them in basketball or flag football then I have no respect for a player or team that does it at the college level.

You say "majority of scholars" believe there were different authors of ch 2-3 & 4. Can you name a few? And the book or peer-reviewed journal articles this scholar has written that establishes that point? Why is it impossible to believe these were oral traditions written down in 13th century bc?

Our freedom in Christ doesn’t give us rights to say or do what we will. It gives us the will to say and do what is right.

Christian freedom has nothing to do with our country’s freedoms.

You can have freedom of speech and still be a slave of sin.
