The outward ripples of the unchecked job cuts across Higher Ed in the UK this year that the govt has allowed to happen.
I wonder how many jobs have been lost in UK universities over the year. (Edinburgh Uni alone is looking to shed approx 2,000 jobs). I genuinely wonder whether over 2 year there will have been 40,000 jobs lost across HE sector via early retirement, redundancy, limited tutor roles & non-replacement

UEA: the clearest case of ‘you can’t cut yourself to success’.

Sort this out, government. It is on you, as you are the only ones who can put an end to the spirals of absurd recruitment projections, tinkering with entry requirements, and taking out megalomaniac loans-with-harmful-covenants. #UKHE
Add UEA to the list for the third time. The latest cuts are in clinical psychology affecting ~18 staff who train mental health professionals.

Shocking & short-sighted the cuts will be devastating for staff, students and for the region too.

@uea-ucu.bsky.social is fighting to save these jobs. ✊
New redundancies in Higher Education at:
*Anglia Ruskin
*Birmingham City
*Bristol
*De Montfort
*Derby
*Goldsmiths (yet again)
*Greenwich
*Hertfordshire
*Lancaster
*Leicester
Every single day in HE is like this. Nothing will be done.

The furore over certain Glastonbury performers' statements and banning Palestine Action are distracting tactics.

We shouldn't allow our selves to get pulled away from the actual story which is the extreme violence being perpetrated daily on Palestinians, especially in #Gaza.

This.
The cycle of redundancies is NOT the solution to the H.E. crisis.

Well done @ducuuo.bsky.social!
Breaking news – Redundancy notice (Section 188) removed

The University of Dundee has confirmed that the section 188 letter issued in March 2025 has been formally withdrawn! This is a direct result of the industrial action we took and the action we threatened.

How are we allowing scores of people to be killed daily when they come seeking the only access they have to food and aid?

We are all complicit in this violence.

Eight compulsory redundancies. Just how much do you hate your staff that you go through the trouble of destroying the livelihoods of these colleagues, for just *eight* salaries. What's that, in relation to the entire operating budget of the university?

UEA has this week issued compulsory redundancy notices to a very small number of staff despite making most of their savings through voluntary means and a big restructure.
This is the 2nd round of cuts in 2 years. We expect more to come.

@uea-ucu.bsky.social will keep resisting these cuts.
