When the right complains about 'over-diagnosis' they really mean people aren't suffering at all & so don't warrent support. For the left that's disengenious, as people's suffering is real, but rather points to psycho-social problems that over-medicalisation mistreats & ignores.

Just spent 30 mins discussing the metaphysics of the Easter Bunny with a 6-yr old refusing to sleep. Wish I’d done my own personal prolegomena to avoid contradictions in my story, all of which were caught out by said 6-yr old.

One of an expat's unofficial functions is to serve as a cultural interpreter and translator between their countries of origin and their countries of adoption.

And I think I'm speaking for all US expats when I say that we are working overtime right now.

Can Mexico build a national care system covering care for children, people with disabilities, the elderly—and the caretakers themselves?

This is a great piece by @carinzissis.bsky.social on a regional movement to revalue "care," one that could be yet another LatAm model the US can learn from.
In Mexico, the Push for a National Care System Is Gaining Momentum
A national care system would go a long way toward addressing Mexico’s workforce gender gap, but building it will take time and resources.

Defund the Police never meant Defund the Police, which is why I don't think it was effective. But coverage rarely explained what it did mean (radically reorient policing through new institutions.)

By contrast, when Trump says, "We will take Greenland," the media bends over backward to sanitize it.

I happen to think Defund the Police is not good messaging. (I'd have gone with Reimagine Policing.)

And the pro-Palestine protests also suffered from messaging that fairly or unfairly got pinned on them.

That said, it's revealing whose messaging gets the benefit of "translation" and whose doesn't.
