A round of political text messages are circulating in Chicago after the mayor’s veto on a youth curfew ordinance. Experts say these campaigns are only going to increase from here.

I've been following Miracle Boyd's story since 2022. She said she’s relieved today but knows this vote isn’t total closure.

As an abolitionist, she wanted the officer who assaulted her to participate in restorative justice circles—but he resigned instead.

Historically, the mayor’s power has disproportionately benefited a select few, as evidenced by the segregated pockets of poverty and divestment across Chicago.

Mayor Johnson is attempting to govern differently than the handpicked white Democrats who came before him.
