The USA did such a good job warning Americans about communism that we can’t even get basic social services; meanwhile, they did such a poor job warning Americans away from dictatorship that they’d rather embrace a dictator than provide social services or tax the wealthy.

The ideologues behind abolishing the Dept of Ed want to Christianize and privatize education to “restore” a Christian America. See ch. 8 of my book, Faithful Politics, for more on Reconstructionism and dominionism and faithful alternatives to these types of Christian nationalism.

OPINION: No doubt religion in America has undergone many changes in the past 62 years: Mainline Protestantism has shrunk, the nones have risen, and clerical leadership is a far cry from what it once was.

The Constitution won’t atop anyone from doing unconstitutional things. People have to act. Institutions don’t prevent anything. People do. Those in a position to act must act. Those without obvious recourse to power have a phone and their elected officials’ contact information. Do something!

Under this EO hiring any woman, BIPOC, or disabled candidate will put the hiring manager at risk. All who aren’t white men will have to over-perform even more to prove qualifications, and for many that won’t be enough. The ripple effects can last generations.

When listening to political rhetoric, ask who they want you to fear and who they want you to blame. Christian should be so transformed by the Spirit that we become impervious to the manipulation that leads to dehumanization and scapegoating. The truth sets free from lies. Live within the Truth.

This is the kind of legislation that must force the Church and Christians to elevate the requirements of our faith above the law. It is a forthright test of our allegiances: the Kingdom of God or the country?

Toying with the idea of a book on lessons for US Christians from USSR Christians. One lesson: samizdat (self-published news, satire, fact-finding) have an important role when media are either under gov’t control or lack courage. But, Christians have to earn public trust by living in Truth.
