Hello #writingcommunity followers!

I'm a full time child psychiatrist, married mother of three, red belt in Tae Kwon Do, reader and writer of fantasy stories. I tend to have ghosts and family relationships front and center, starting to bring in my Vietnamese heritage.

Whatever you do, please don’t stop reading.

Read for joy. Read for education. Read for resistance. Read banned books. Read books by marginalized authors. Read about experiences that differ from your own.

Just. Keep. Reading.

When your youngest wants to play Kerplunk and cards rather than watch YouTube videos, you change plans. I can send queries another night.

It's been a while... work, traveling with my oldest for Tae Kwon Do Nationals, my boys with Boy Scouts camp and other regular obligations. So far, queries sent last month got rejections or crickets. That just means it's time to send more!

Oof. Too true.
I’m going to share with you what my therapist said to me yesterday, because if I have to sit with the sucker punch of it, I’m taking you with me:

“Your whole life you were taught that anything less than brutal self-obliteration was laziness.”

Writing a synopsis by hand in a notebook took three tries, but I think I've got it. Mostly because I'm not as tempted to put every detail into it. :)

No set plans other than Pathfinder today for the first time in weeks. My eldest threw up, so no Tae Kwon Do practice today.

Time to finish reverse outlining today...

I always bring too much to do during solo and ensemble. But I got some reverse outlining done! Other than the first chapter, I haven't given myself too many notes. Hopefully that's a good thing. ;)

And my oldest is going to the state competition, with a 1* on the solo. ❤️

Back to purple hair after getting the blue out yesterday. I missed it so much. :)

Finished rewriting my novel! It's the sixth draft overall, but now has a new title. I compiled it in Scrivener last night, and will let it sit a bit and reverse outline it again. I think it should hang together better now. 🙂

I didn't intend to do a complete rewrite, but changing up the beginning and putting in a ticking clock means referencing the clock and the steps being taken to beat it. But since I know the story already, rewriting is much faster than the first writing. It's been a week, and I'm almost halfway.

Rewriting the beginning of the Ghost Library book. I've tightened the timing and introduced the ticking clock aspect. I'm hoping that it flows better when I reverse outline it afterwards.

Morning shower thought: eliminate the first chapter. It stops being a portal fantasy, and I have to present stakes and urgency faster. I have to adjust the beginning anyway, and this might help.

(Still reverse outlining, putting this here to remember.)

I started reverse outlining over the weekend. I'm starting to feel like the pacing of the first half is too slow. Another rewrite might be in my future...

This is breathtaking.

Is there some reason why bots are pretending to be Kevin Costner? I think a dozen have followed me niw.

Banged up both wrists and especially my left one while sparring this afternoon. This is why you're supposed to block with the forearms, which have guards on them. ^^;

Still going to edit tonight, though I think I may have to rewrite chapters. Again. Sigh.

I have some things planned today, including possibly freezing while watching another parade, but it looks like the cards say editing will happen. :)

While on a roll yesterday, I pulled up Ghost Library to edit for interiority. I got three quarters of the way through in a three hour stretch before I had to call it quits from exhaustion. Now I'm in the hardest part of it. Maybe after today's Pathfinder game.

I got massively inspired and banged out so many pages of fanfic this weekend and yesterday. Hopefully the creative flow continues and I can direct it toward editing. 😅

Like every good writer, I massively procrastinated during the main writing time I had. But Christmas cards are all addressed properly, digital address book updated, and half are stamped and ready to go. At least I was productive about *something!*

This is good, considering half my workload is often virtual. I'm covering patients in five or six counties across two states, and it's really hard for people to travel two hours for a twenty minute med check.
