Today's historic find: 1923, Mrs. Frank Hoffman, music chair for the Iowa Federation of Women's Clubs, complains that the average woman "doesn't know a trombone from a steamboat."
I’m imagining the muppets lined up at the mic for the Q&A.
I'd watch a muppet show movie where the muppets infiltrate an academic conference.

I do want to shout-out my fellow sociologists, who have collectively created a discipline so woke that not a single one of our introductory textbooks can make it past Florida's censors.

Great work everyone.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

The Washington Post has only a single arts critic left - everyone else got fired today, along with all three arts editors. (There are still a couple of excellent arts reporters.) I was so upset I dusted off my blog to have my say: annemidgette.com/blog/f/a-req...
A requiem for arts coverage
I used to say I wished that newspapers would treat their arts sections the way they treated their sports sections. What I meant was that sports sections offered a balanced mix of news stories, feature...

In this week's edition of: "I didn't know one could protest in so many ways:"

More than 60 Drummers 🥁 coordinated throughout downtown Minneapolis to play on different street corners and share a unified message that they want ICE out of their city. 🪘🙌🏻

I love their laugh at the end. 😍

Okay, now how about the rest of the kids in captivity?
Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

"Just minutes into Trump’s speech, the man next to me, Ed Fallon, takes off his coat and reveals a shirt with the word LIAR scrawled in red Sharpie. He’s immediately escorted out by security."
I went to the Trump rally in Iowa where there were more people outside protesting than inside cheering for Trump. And I watch Trump, try to regain control of the narrative www.patreon.com/posts/realit...
