Progressive LDS. Aspiring philosopher king. Husband. Dad. History nerd. News nerd. SciFi nerd. Nerd. My mom thinks I’m funny. My wife laughs at me.
Tired of the false narrative.
Charlie Kirk was NOT a civil rights leader. He didn’t speak to an oppressed, marginalized or disenfranchised group.
He spoke to the most privileged demographic in the country and convinced them that they were entitled to more.
That’s why he was so popular.

If u watch the whole clip here this is about as good as you’re gonna get from a Republican leader rn; contrast it with the myriad other prominent conservatives in politics and media calling for blood, gore, and preemptive blame games
Spencer Cox: "Our nation is broken. We had political assassinations recently in Minnesota. We had an attempted assassination on the gov of Pennsylvania. And we had an attempted assassination on a president. Nothing I say can unite us as a country. Nothing I can say right now can fix what is broken"

We didn’t compare him to Nazis. We called him a Nazi because of his Nazi-ish tendencies.
Trump: "For years those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism we're seeing in our country & it must stop right now. My admin will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity"

I do have a question, since the right has seen fit to politicize the Kirk shooting.
Why is it OK to politicize a shooting when 1 person is killed, but when it’s a school full of children, the most we can allow is thoughts and prayers?

The right is using this moment to further an us-against-them narrative. But for them, they mean Democrats against Republicans.
How about we define us-against-them to simply mean “People Who Think It’s OK to Shoot Others” against, say, “Everyone Else.”

Charlie Kirk was … not a good person. But there’s another family without a husband and father tonight because of a senseless act of violence. Look elsewhere if you’re searching for a cheerful leftist.
This is not a happy day.

3 points:
1. Anson Mount’s Vulcan voice (especially in the intro) sounded like the Thermians from “Galaxy Quest” and kinda took me out of the episode sometimes.

Abolish ICE
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the immigrant who the U.S. wrongfully deported to El Salvador, was taken into ICE custody on Monday, his lawyer said, after the Trump administration indicated it planned to deport him again, this time to Uganda.
Abrego Garcia Detained Again After Administration Signaled It Would Re-Deport Him
The move came only three days after he was freed from custody in the criminal case that was filed against him in Federal District Court in Nashville.

So my wife and I were talking about a lot of the same things you were.

Could they have made “This is Starfleet” more of a documentary without either A. making it a clip show (albeit better than Shades of Gray) …

@seanferrick.bsky.social Watching your U&Ds, I was waiting for you to reference the parallel between Hegemony and Best of Both Worlds. Did it bother you that Pike’s solution was to effectively “put the Gorn to sleep” like Riker did with the Borg?

Oh, crap! I’m doing the thing that old people do, where they take off their glasses or hold something further away from their eyes, so they can read better.

Murkowski saying it was “agonizing” to vote for the bill smacks of Hamilton singing “How do I say ‘No’ to this?”
You say “No”! You just don’t do it.
This wasn’t a real dilemma. It’s all manufactured drama as a means of avoiding responsibility for what she chose to do.

I know it’s difficult for us to find common ground on anything these days, but are we at least in a place where we all can agree that Luke’s plan to save Han in ROTJ was overly complicated, completely bonkers and probably shouldn’t have worked?

We probably should go ahead brace ourselves for at least 4 years of unavoidable and unforeseeable disasters that would’ve been both avoidable and foreseeable if “wasteful spending” hadn’t been eliminated to fund tax cuts for billionaires.
