Geçen hafta Ankara'daydım; önce Cuma Hacettepe'de Kobit'te, ardından Cumartesi ise ODTÜ'de Uluslararası Işık Günü toplantısında konuşup eski hocalarımla ve genç arkadaşla buluştuk. Ayrılalı 17 sene olmasına rağmen Ankara benim için hala bir ev ❤️

Işığı durdurup, oda sıcaklığında çalışan bir optik hafıza depolayıp, sonra bunu fiziksel olarak taşıdığımız yeni deneysel işimiz arxiv'da ⬇️ Depolanan ışığı ne kadar taşıdığımızı ise interferometri ile ölçtük ve bunun da bir hız sensörü olarak kullanılabileceğini de gösterdik ⚛️
Our latest experimental results are now online! ⚛️ We've translated stored optical pulses by more than an optical wavelength using a room-temperature memory.
Using interferometry, we precisely measured this displacement - enabling its use as a velocimeter. 📏

Physicist Polykarp Kusch was born #OTD in 1911. His measurements of the magnetic moment of the electron revealed that its value disagrees with naive predictions by a tiny amount — about 0.1%.

Quantum Electrodynamics offers a marvelous explanation of this minuscule discrepancy. 🧪 ⚛️
