Delighted to be heading back to the Galway International Arts Festival this Saturday for a chat with two heroes of mine - Dr Paul Rouse, the GAA polymath, and @sineadocarroll.bsky.social.

All organised by the wonderful Catriona Crowe, limited tickets still available on www.giaf.ie/festival/eve...

four 2025 division 1 teams in the connacht winners’ group, and then not even one team that started the year in division 1 in the Leinster winners’ group - bloody hell
April 30, 2025 at 1:14 PM
I watched the entire 6-min clip the Masters put up this morning, and thought maybe they’d edited out some of the CBS comms. But no! They really did just let the pictures tell the story. Pretty brilliant

This week's column. The verdict from Junior B football is in. These rules... are pretty bloody good www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic...
Ciarán Murphy: ‘Solo and f**kin’ go, will ye' - how the new football rules are landing in Junior B
The game is slightly better, slightly faster, slightly more vertical, and slightly more fun to play. And all those minor improvements add up to a major impact

This week's column - hope that everyone gets back on their feet soon, I know there are plenty in Galway still waiting for their power to return
www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic...
Ciarán Murphy: The most important rule now is we must support clubs that suffered storm damage
The destruction of Connacht GAA’s Air Dome in Bekan is a travesty for thousands of kids around the entire province

Storm Éowyn can’t destroy Connacht GAA’s ambition – Prenty’s Tenty will rise again
The Air Dome is a unique kind of west of Ireland miracle and though John Prenty and his staff stayed until 2.30am on Thursday night to try and save it, the storm ripped through it

This week's column -

More than one of my brothers have already threatened legal action

www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic...
Ciarán Murphy: Brothers-in-arms set to have a big impact on final day
Canavan sharpshooters Ruairí and Darragh Canavan come up against Cuala’s Con and Niall O’Callaghan with All-Ireland glory the glittering prize

This was a very nice message to get - here's the column in question, it was in the paper on St Stephen's Day www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic...

It's my first GAA column of the year with @IrishTimes - and you can tell I'm already busting down doors trying to get a look at NEW football (and bemoaning competitions who eschewed the enhancements for possibly valid reasons)

www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic...
Ciarán Murphy: Sigerson Cup missed a trick by not playing by new rules
In the absence of traditional preseason provincial competitions, high-quality colleges’ fare would have attracted extra interest

This week's column - the dual club. The likes of Slaughtneil and Loughmore/Castleiney are unbelievable, but they are such outliers we can't feel too bad about everyone else being unable to match their success in 2 codes

www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic...
Ciarán Murphy: Are Loughmore-Castleiney and Slaughtneil what all GAA clubs should strive to be?
The spectacular dual success of of both clubs suggests that offering both sports is not a hindrance to any club’s potential chances of success

This week’s column - the FRC showed the oil tanker of GAA democracy can get turned around. Now it’s your turn, hurling

www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic...
Ciarán Murphy: The FRC could be a good template for the renewal of hurling
Hurling is doing fine in its nine or 10 traditional counties but could there be a way to grow the appeal of the national game beyond the heartlands?
