One of the most indulgently entertaining parts of writing Serena and Orin is that they are basically bookworms LARPing romance novels together. The fantasy is entirely a construct, but the underlying relationship is real.

Orin's eyes are naturally amber-gold and he, like many of the town's residents, uses magic to mask the color. A basic cantrip that encourages people to see only what they expect to see. In his case, most "see" hazel. It's plot significant because the protag sees the real color now and then,
