Really enjoyed the first episode of @timeteam.bsky.social's latest excavation series - having really enjoyed volunteering as a test-pitter last year. Can't say I remember those finds though 😄. Next episode is out tomorrow...

I wish I had been able to go on a weekend like this when I was an undergraduate. If you've ever wondered about the houses of ordinary folk in history, or (if you know me) wondered what it is that I actually get up to, then book in and have an amazing weekend in Oxfordshire!
New to vernacular architecture and want to find out more? Why not come along to our training and study weekend at Sutton Courteney Abbey in Oxfordshire on 4-5 October 2025, and discover how we go about examining buildings? Further details at www.vag.org.uk/conferences.....

Absolutely devastated to learn today that Pete's Eats in Llanberis has gone the way of all things. It's been an (admittedly less frequent than I would like) part of my life forever, and now there's no point finishing the Welsh 2000s if I can't finish in Pete's Eats!

This is quite a story...
The secret German weather station on the Arctic island of Svalbard. Part of the 'Weather War'.
The team, led by Lieutenant Wilhelm Dege, were the last German troops to surrender in WW2, finally doing so FOUR MONTHS after Germany had officially surrendered.
It was not for want of trying. /1

This was indeed their finest hour...
As it is that time of year again, here is W/C L.E. Healy's wonderful response to the Air Ministry's reminder, hours into the landings in Normandy, that 2TAF's Hawker Typhoon Bomphoons were not cleared to drop 1000lbs bombs.
The Canadian Tiffys had already dropped 48 of them that morning...

Really sad to hear this news - the Ponies are one of a kind, and their arrangements are really creative and distinctive, so there is no way this is just creative coincidence.

Absolutely loving @skinnylister.bsky.social 's new album Songs From The Yonder, and the latest Pieces of Eight from @thelongestjohns.bsky.social - 2025 is a good year for folk music, who else should I be listening to?

Our street party tea was a muted celebration, full of uncertainty. Then, as now, we faced a long struggle towards a better world, says actor and writer Sheila Hancock

This was an entertaining romp through naval incompetence. Having a bad day? Why not compare it to this captain's?
Five years ago today it seemed that the golden age of naval idiocy had disappeared forever.
That was before the Venezuelan patrol vessel Naiguatá managed to recapture some of this spirit by fighting - at least at that point - the dumbest action of the 21st century.

🧵 The UK government has announced they will make over £5bn in cuts to disabled people’s social security.
This is the biggest cut on record. And we’re appalled.
People at food banks have told us that they’re terrified about how they might survive.

These guys are a ray of joy in dark days. The language is sometimes a little strong (but always justified) for sharing with little ones, but the love of humanity, talent and political acuity are outstanding!
TODAY'S RELEASE DAY for #UniversalChild! We poured all we could into #AnnieLennox's song - we have no music label or publisher, just a lot of effort & a shedload of wonderful supporters. Please help the song fly for @savechildrenuk.bsky.social by sharing this & buying it

For anyone in the UK, If you text ‘SHOUT’ to 85258 when you are in a dark place or suicidal, a trained crisis volunteer will text you back. This is great If you find talking on the phone challenging. It’s completely free 24/7. Please Repost, you never know who might need this support
