RFK Jr. continues to sow disinformation in service of his wacko agenda. Here's a more truthful assessment of our chronic disease problem. It's not all bad news. We can do better, but not by embracing pseudoscientific falsehoods.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the percentage of Americans with chronic diseases has gone up 20 times in six decades. That makes no sense.

About 2,000 people downtown for a rally in Northampton. Plenty of great signs. Probably the most popular topics were supporting immigrants and opposing Musk, Trump and fascism generally. So early days, but plenty to be optimistic about in terms of resistance.

The next 50-100 years seem very critical yet hard to really pin down. I want to capture the chaos of climate change and the accompanying social changes w/o falling into techno utopianism or catastrophism. Interested to hear how other people are wrestling with this.

Trump's undermining of Zelensky and moves to prepare a replacement remind me of LBJ's constant changing of South Vietnamese leaders, some violently. But there's one big difference: Ukrainians support Z much more than South Vietnamese did Big Minh and their ilk.

The hypocrisy of Trumpworld about free speech is breathtaking and clearly Orwellian. Freedom is slavery! The wildest, most out of control college students he rails about never came within a mile of this sort of repression and control.

What happened to 538's polling? It used to be upper right on their homepage and now it's nowhere to be seen. Trump's net approval had shrunk to 0.1%. Is this ABC taking it off the homepage under pressure to not embarrass Trump? I sure hope not.

So now we have "illegal protests" at colleges in the Former Republic of the United States. And if colleges don't stop them, they'll be penalized by withholding of Federal funds. Good thing Trump's standing up for freedom of speech! Oh wait, he's the one calling them "illegal." Day 43 of autocracy.

Today in Orwell: War is Peace. Ignorance is strength. To those who still think this is all a show for the base, NO. We are definitely living in the Former Republic of the United States (FRUS), run by an autocrat, run for oligarchs. Can it be reversed? Absolutely. But until then, this is who we are.

Make America Greedy Again. Trump tries to strong arm Zelensky and then complains the US is being taken advantage of. It's not enough that tens of thousands of Ukrainians have been killed while "taking advantage of us." With friends like us...Anyway, I want to vomit.

The budget charade reveals the GOP bringing back the Pat Buchanan playbook: Hey Mr. and Mrs. White Person, we're no longer going to give your tax money to Black people. But white people, especially rural ones, will suffer from reducing Medicaid and many other Federal programs. Divide and conquer.
February 26, 2025 at 4:36 PM
This is the beginning of austerity -- cuts for the bottom half or more of Americans, lower taxes and other bennies for the rest, especially the 1%. As AOC points out, this isn't about fraud and waste, it's about gutting social programs GOP opposes. How dare we give poor kids breakfast at school?
🔥 @aoc.bsky.social : “The numbers don’t add up. $880 BILLION is a devastating cut to Medicaid, and an attack on Medicare. Anyone who votes for this budget is voting to cut Medicaid and gut health care for Medicare recipients in 🇺🇸.”

DOGE, p. II. The DOD is much more a logistics op than fighting. Sounds like something Amazon could do! Betsy DeVoss can run private schools when DOE is shuttered. Plenty of people at the energy trough. The US will have a fire sale. This is what Putin did, and Trump will attempt it, too.
February 23, 2025 at 2:28 AM
Here's what DOGE is likely up to:
1. The firings will continue until some or all of the government will become paralyzed.
2. Trump will blame the Deep State for all of it.
3. Then he will begin to sell of parts of the government to oligarchs to "fix it" and "balance the budget."
