Leadership Coach working with heads, deputies, principals, etc. across the country. Former headteacher. On a quest to find sustainability in educational leadership!
I work with headteachers. I find that they don't tend to be particularly kind to themselves when we start out. It takes time for self-kindness to grow, but when it gets established, amazing things start to happen 😊

Watching headteachers starting to be kinder to themselves ❤️ reminds me of seeing someone fumbling through a dark tunnel who suddenly remembers they have a torch in their bag and switches it on. 💡

A dep head I coached recently said the thought of moving into headship made him feel like he was stepping out onto a ledge. (Great metaphor!)

I'm so pleased to have been mentioned in @drjessm.bsky.social 's review column in @schoolsweek.bsky.social even though it took me a while to realise 😂!

The blog was the result of several years of reflection. Funny how things that you've been puzzling about suddenly slot into place one day!

Had a nice day off with mum in Durham yesterday. Visited The Story - a fabulous new local history centre. (Brilliant for school trips I'd say, NE teachers)
Love this picture of 4 Durham policemen c.1864. You wouldn't mess with these guys 🫣

Spinning plates, firefighting, being snowed under, drowning in paperwork, headless chickens . . .These are some of the metaphors I commonly hear leaders using about their workload. I’ve used them myse...

I realised a few months back that being a slow reader was holding me back and that I'd accepted it as part of my identity.
I decided to take my own advice and step out of my comfort zone. I'm learning speed reading strategies. Going well so far. Has anyone else tried this?
