Despite shifting politics and declining support for the industry, Dudfield said the goal hasn’t changed. “We’re fact-checkers. We check facts,”

"It doesn’t display the same transparency but it is asking for the same trust "

Grateful for the chance to comment on the difference between Grok and @wikipedia.org in The Guardian today

This is my current go to example of what my job is

It appears that Russia is using a poor quality fake of the (fame wise) mid level UK comedian Geoff Norcott to try and destabilise Armenia.

Why? How? To be seen by whom? It is a never ending journey
Also featured in the latest batch of Russian disinformation videos are comedian @geoffnorcott.bsky.social and children's author @philipardagh.bsky.social, again with their voices being deepfaked to attack Armenia.

I am putting some vision language models through some tests.

So I am now looking for examples of vertical video (insta, tiktok, shorts) where the meaning of the video is implied via mime but not said out loud or via text on screen.

Send em my way if you have ideas

I really enjoy this Wales as a tube map vibe, but it necessarily does some absolutely wild things to Welsh geography

This is *so* very interesting. The kind of media we monitor at @fullfact.org continues to see these kind of patterns and it is not just the most famous people that are being faked at the moment
In today's batch of videos we have deepfaked audio from 5 UK police forces, 3 UK universities, one UK council, and 1 Holocaust survivor attacking the Armenia government and Prime Minister.

Great @reutersinstitute.bsky.social research published today. This on the trust of AI generated search has surprised me. Way higher than I would have assumed.

Still striking that billions(?) of people are using search products where less than 50% of people think the first result is good.
Among those who have encountered AI answers, 50% say they trust them. Respondents emphasised their speed and convenience and the fact that AI aggregates vast amounts of information as reasons to trust them, although trust seems conditional.

Do you know what would be good news for fact checkers? Anyone who fancied going to the @fullfact.org website (the people who wrote the widely used fact check cited by lots of people here) and clicking the donate button. We are a tiny charity and your support helps.

The first thing we at @fullfact.org always ask people when they see something online is how does it make you feel? If it seems too good to be true, take a moment and consider if you should post it/say it on a prime time panel show

The Boring Fund will be open for applications in November.

If your small UK charity needs (up to) £200 to cover something boring like insurance or web hosting, take a look.

They welcome donations too.

It's nice. A neat slogan.
