Just a film dork that reviews them on YouTube! Figured I'd give this Blue sky a go! Expect sharing of my movie reviews with a heavy dose of DnD, Anime, Wrestling and in general anything geeky! Ft some F1 Ice Hockey and Footy of course.
Edgar Wrights #TheRunningMan releases tomorrow! And in it he takes aim at the media, consumerism and deep fakes. Colman Domingo is the standout in this enjoyable yet underwhelming outing, that would have hit better had we not just had The Long Walk

Ethan Hawke is outright enthralling in his depiction of Lorenz Hart. This performance carries an isolated setting to a thoroughly engaging level that would have not worked with another actor.

When awards season rolls round, fully expect #SentimentalValue and Renate Reinsve to be in the conversation. This was my favorite film at LFF this year, and is arguably one of the years best all together!

Ok so the first half was a rough one (post opening scene), I get what the idea was but tonally felt like there was a little too much humour and too much going on. But boy did #PredatorBadlands deliver in that second half with it's incorporation of its setting and change of stakes tying it together!

In what might have provided the most wholesome scene this year, #LeftHandedGirl is well worth the view and is a solid directoral effort from Shih-Ching Tsous!

The last film I saw at LFF was #christymovie and as someone unfamiliar with her story, this was one that garnered so many reactions from me, and left me rocked despite some pacing and technical flaws.

Yes I am definitely the last person to review #ShelbyOaks but... c'mon I'm a talking head movie reviewer on YouTube, there's no way I was not gonna talk about our bois debut! Even if it was disappointing.

Finally continuing my LFF reviews, Park Chan-wook returns with this brutal yet morbidly hilarious call out of the job market in an increasingly AI world, and how one man takes an interesting approach to secure that bag.

As much as I wanted to like Stuckman's #ShelbyOaks it unfortunately has too much going against it than for it. Inconsistent lighting, an elongated opening and a final 10 minutes that betrays a character's whole motivation sours what is a fine debut effort. I'm proud of him for achieving the dream.

Brendan's back in a story of lies, legacy, loneliness and the need to fill the hole that's missing in one's life. #RentalFamily was a welcome tonic at LFF, and I would highly recommend.

So every LFF there's always one film that I wouldn't have otherwise have heard of that jumps out at me. Next Sohee, Happyend, Gasoline Rainbow, Paris 13th district, and this year it was #TheHolyBoy an Italian Horror ♥️

Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone team up again, this time including the ever impressive Jesse Plemons in what is quite a gripping tale of crazy talk and wild theories, that may or may not have something to them depending on your side 👀

The Boss of us all is finally being depicted on the big screen this Friday! Sadly despite Jeremy Allen White's best efforts, this is yet another musical biopic that plays it a little too safe.

My London Film Festival reviews could only begin with del Toro's #Frankenstein a beautifully shot tragedy of a creature, who never asked to be created, played brilliantly by Elordi, that DEMANDS to be seen on the biggest screen possible!

Whilst I enjoyed the performances in #GoodFortune and appreciated what it was trying to say, it's virtue singling feels very soulless considering the wealth of its cast and reminds us that films are just a fantasy, and that most of us are expected to just deal without comfort.

Film #8 is ironically #Exit8 a very well crafted psychological horror with shades of Triangle. It's ever mobile Cinematography and subtle sound ques, help build an anxious tension that stays prevalent throughout, but when the film begins to cut away, its momentum slows.

For a movie called #TheSmashingMachine it certainly pulls its punches. It has a lot of threads it can focus on but refuses to pull any, and as a result lacks a true emotional through line to guide us. Blunt is great, as for Dwayne, he's ok. Certainly not the 'i can act' performance I expected.

PTAs #OneBattleAfterAnother is filled with a phenomenally edited sequence in the mid point, crushing performances by DiCaprio, Penn and Infiniti, and some truly absurd humour. I don't think it's the world beater people are saying it is, but boy was it enthralling!
After yesterday's disappointing double feature, let's see how the hyped movie holds up #OneBattleAfterAnother
