For reference, federal SNAP spending totaled ~$100 billion in 2024. The annual cost of providing nutritional assistance to 42 million people in this country (16 million of them children) is equal to 14% of the wealth growth of 10 individuals. Unfettered greed.

Students in my Bioinspiration class are designing 3D printed and laser-cut samaras (“helicopter” seeds) modeled after maple seeds, and testing which membrane shapes keep the seeds airborne the longest.
