I’ve helped hundreds of thousands of people fix Ruby and gem installation issues over the past 13 years. Here are 4 things that can prevent what I see over and over:

1. A proper Ruby dev environment (rubyonmac.dev makes this super easy)

2. Make sure your project’s Ruby version is up to date.

Are you getting an OpenSSL error "certificate verify failed (unable to get certificate CRL)" in your Ruby projects?

Cause: updating OpenSSL to 3.6.0 (e.g. via Homebrew)

Fix: Add the openssl gem to your project and set it to the latest compatible version

Ruby on Mac updates:

Ultimate version 2.2.0 allows skipping the Node installation and management: rom script --skip=node

Coming tonight: Ultimate version 2.3.0 adds support for Mise, built by @jdx. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was, especially for fish.

This sounded like a good idea in my head. 😅

I'm driving 7500 miles in the months of September and October bringing people together for single-day, single-track Ruby conferences.

If I'm coming to a city near you I'd love to catch up!
We're traveling the country over the next 9 weeks bringing regional Ruby conferences to your backyard.

Put your shoes on and get out of the house for a day to meet some #rubyfriends new and old.

This is a fantastic example of someone seeing a problem in the market and making a product to fix it. I gladly paid the price and I would do it again and again.

Completely recommended.

NOTE: If you aren’t a software dev nerd, ignore this post.

Moncef Belyamani is, imho, an absolute magician. Moncef is the author of Ruby on Mac (ROM), a software tool to correctly install Ruby on a Mac.

Today I found myself unable to get Ruby going correctly. And ROM got it right 1st try. ♥️

Hello, world! I took a long break from that other social media platform and now I'm back here. I'm still quietly working on Ruby on Mac. I tested it on the latest macOS Tahoe beta, and it works like a champ.

I hope to start some other projects, and I'll share more once they come to fruition.
