Democrat strategy to re-open the government:

"We'll give you everything you want if you pretend to care about human suffering next month"
"We don't have to ACTUALLY care right? Saving lives isn't really our thing"
"No no, just hold a vote that everybody knows won't pass"
"Okay, deal"

Remember how #Republicans are always terrified that people who don't work are getting federal aid money?

At this point, you pay the House of Reps about 70$ per day *just for meals* to sit on their asses and do nothing while people who get 6$ per day for meals are about to go hungry.

Since people haven't care about ballrooms since about 1860, what purpose will the Jeffrey Epstein Memorial Ballroom actually serve? I'm figuring Rump will try to do 10K$-per-plate fundraising dinners in his own honor, in the unfortunate case he lives long enough to see it finished. But after that.

You know how everybody was like "We should have hit Rump with insurrection charges to formally stop all his bullshit"

We better get into position now to file obstruction of justice against Johnson and everybody who's in on this conspiracy. Or it will be another "We should have" in a few years.
October 11, 2025 at 11:15 PM
Imagine if our government put half as much effort into solving wealth inequality as they put into avoiding the Epstein files.

Mike Johnson delays swearing in Rep. Grijalva specifically to stall the discharge petition.

Why is taking a stand against sex trafficking so difficult for Republicans?

I'm getting frustrated with people saying the economic landscape is "confusing" because the stock market is doing fantastic while unemployment is going up and cost of living is becoming impossible to maintain.

It's not confusing. It's the 1%ers stealing your prosperity and your future.

What Rump just learned is that losing prominent members of his own hate crusade is a fantastic diversion from the #Epstein scandal. Are the rats about to start eating eachother as the water rises?

Re: #bigbeautifulbill, a question for the history experts: Which document from the Nazi takeover of Germany in the 1930s did the Republicans just emulate?
July 3, 2025 at 10:10 PM
Well, the traitors in the senate passed their bill. When the elections come around, remember who decided that tax cuts for millionaires was more important than the lives of our grandparents, the education of our children, the beauty of our wild lands, and the oversight of dangerous technologies.

Just remember as the price of oil goes back up, companies are NOT "forced" to buy oil and gas from Russia. They "want" to because it's cheaper. They value their profit margins more than they value the lives of #Ukraine. It's not a question of whether Russian will kill more innocents, only how many.

Universities bending the knee to Rump really makes you wonder: What the hell do you pay them for? If getting a degree is so costly that students take on life long debt, why do these institutions need government handouts to survive? Or if they DON'T need government handouts...why the cowardice?

I expect nothing more from Trump. But every #Republican in Congress could have stopped this. You chose to let it happen. You are complicit in everything he does. Home breakers. Baby stealers. There is no circle in hell low enough.
Reuters reports that the Trump administration may have deleted data on the abduction of Ukrainian children by Russians.

PC #gaming in 2025:
New CPU! It's amazing! Also you can't buy one.

New GPU (team red)! It's amazing! It would be priced 200$ over MSRP, if you could buy one.

New GPU (team green)! It's almost insultingly mediocre. Also you can't buy one.

Given how much he likes to have his name on things, let's make sure to give full and proper attribution for the Trump #tariffs, Trump Inflation, and Trump Unemployment. Hope everybody is settled in for the upcoming Trump Recession in the second half of 2025.

Does this strike anybody else as weird: If you want to drive a car, there is a specific license. If you drive over people we take your license away. But there's no license or training required to be a billionaire? And when you ruin people's lives by abusing your wealth, we don't take it away?

I am reading how Rump (a con artist who has killed a dozen businesses) complained to Apple (one of the most successful companies EVER) that DEI was bad and they 'needed' to stop. Given Rump's track record on both profitability and legality, I'd say do exactly the opposite of anything he suggests.

Well, respect for Zelensky for braving the clown's den trying to make something happen to benefit #Ukraine. What an absolute train wreck for the USA. A shameless, witless, spineless, feckless display of crass ineptitude.

"Why aren't you wearing a suit? You don't respect the office."
Fucksake.

The saddest thing about the death of the United States is that we would only need 2/3 of our own #Senate to agree to save it. One vote, done, and we could stop the bleeding. But too many are willing to bend the knee to an emperor. Too many preparing to carve a slice off the carcass.

October onward is going to be exciting. Microsoft is adamant they are killing Win 10 support, but 60% still using it. Meanwhile, compelling reasons why you should not switch to 11 with black screens, blue screens, and lost functionality getting MORE common in their new updates rather than LESS

There is an absolute saturation point for the number of hours that people can play video games. I feel like we're kind of reaching that point. Industry investors like to pretend that infinite growth is a thing, but if what you're selling is realtime, then you cannot grow infinitely.

The next time you're downloading a minor hotfix for a game that is multiple gigabytes in size, please use that wasted time to appreciate and thank #gamedev who don't build their games that way.

Shouting into the void but... Secret techniques for video encoding rate control? Constant rate forces codec to spend bits inefficiently, while constant quality can obliterate your file size due to extra-grainy scenes. Is there a way to do "Constant quality but peak-limited"??
December 26, 2024 at 4:25 PM
Something I noticed... OLED pixels are emissive right. No backlight means color and luminosity are directly related. This means that the entire encoded color range must fit between "off" and the highest brightness. Therefore, running OLED panels at low brightness crushes your color depth.
