AI is like taboo magic.
Sure, anyone can succumb to it and they might feel really powerful for a while.

But they're never going to be the hero of the story while using it.

Eventually they'll need a villain's ending or redemption arc while the world rights itself.
My new mantra...

Trying to decide which outfit to wear to pirate weekend at the Ren Faire this year and I showed one of these photos to an online friend who only ever sees me on camera (not IRL.)

Any guesses which one I chose in the end?

The great @rosemarymosco.com with the perfect response to mansplaining… picking up a SNAKE.

(and a song about it in her honor, from the latest episode of Extremely Accurate Bird Songs, a quest to write a song for EVERY bird species)

Them: i can fit everything I'll need for a month of backcountry camping into this one backpack.

Me: i can barely fit everything I'll need for 3 days of campground camping into this one Toyota Matrix.

🤣

This matches what I've learned from Secrets of Story by Matt Bird too.

You may have to cut out a ton of great material because it doesn't relate to the character's problem and follow the but/then sequence.

And you *will* cut it out if you want your story to be popular!
South Park's Matt Stone and Trey Parker are storytelling geniuses! I highlight their remarkably simple but effective "but/therefore rule" in every science communication lecture I give.

Fridays are my day for working on my WIP (writing, researching, laying in grass and daydreaming, staring at clouds and letting stories come to me...)

Which is one reason why I don't look at social media much between Friday-Sunday.

But I'll always catch up on your posts the next week! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

You had me at "The overall vibes of the rainforest are kind of murdery…" 😍😍😍
The bush vibes are dry and not exactly nurturing, but still a sanctuary. The overall vibes of the rainforest are kind of murdery…

24 ~ The overall vibes of the forest in books 1 & 2 is isolated, remote, quiet, peaceful.

Most people in the country have never stepped foot in one because they're far away from civilization.

The ones further away are older. Closer ones were wiped out & have regrown.

Friendships are thicker than blood in my WIP.
In the past, the MC couldn't have friendships that lasted more than a few months. So she's used to friendships that aren't very deep.

That'll change & she'll hold onto friendships like they're more important than her own life.

Without 3 star ratings, it's hard to communicate how AMAZING the 5 star books are.

3 stars to me means the story was good and writing was good enough.

4.5 stars means I'm proud to have it on my bookshelf and will probably read it again.

5 stars are rare masterpieces.

Have some good news. You deserve it. Take a moment to drink in the knowledge that somewhere wolves are coursing through a wild place, elk are bounding, and aspen trees are growing toward the sky, each in a dynamic equilibrium together.

Return of wolves to Yellowstone has led to a surge in aspen trees unseen for 80 years
Gray wolves were reintroduced in Yellowstone National Park in 1995 to help control the numbers of elk that were eating young trees, and it is finally paying off for quaking aspen.

Oooh, just found this & LOVE these questions! 😍
23 ~ book 1 mostly takes place in a port city, but most of book 2 is outdoors with some forests, & most of book 3 is in a jungle.

My WIP MC feels most alive and is most in touch with her unique skills when she's in the forest!

Posted this pic in a comment, then realized I should share it here too...

Her current obsession is WHATEVER you're trying to do at the moment. 🐈‍⬛🐾
She interrupted our game of Scurvy Dice, so of course i had to snap a pic...

They LOVE her of course! (Mostly...) 😉

Like life, my WIP focuses on the people she develops deep friendships *and more* with.

Sure, she's got bullies, enemies, & antagonists.
They all share the spotlight in the story, but most don't become side characters.

I think about #16 so much that sometimes I wonder if the story SHOULD be written from another character's POV!

But I stick with the MC because she's the one character that ties all the different people and locations together.

Starting late, but starting!
#FantasyIndiesJuly Day 22

My WIP is back in the planning/plot stage, but with many, many scenes already written.

I really need prompts like this to help me talk it out more, so I'll be doing catch up posts.

I feel like this makes a nice cheat sheet for how to "show, don't tell" in fiction writing.

SHOW a character's lack of integrity by all the ways they justify their wrongdoings...
