Fantasy Author on Sub | The Arrow Trilogy

Hi I’m Moira! I’m currently on sub with my epic high fantasy trilogy where an elite criminal-for-hire is pitted against a power-hungry Queen, her own bloodthirsty siblings, and a handsome war hero just trying to keep her out of jail. Oh, also there’s no magic. It’s called Arrow 🏹
I think it’s funny that streaming services are making it harder to lend out logins to friends & family. If I wasn’t going to pay for Disney+ before, I’m sure as hell not going to now that they’ve kicked me off my cousin’s account. Give money to people who inconvenience me? Yeah right 🤣

I hate whenever the “having a kid is harder than having a pet” discourse circles online bc every pet owner I know who agrees with that mentality has also medically neglected their pet at least once.

Who else is watching the #karenreadtrial today?

I brain vomit my shower thoughts and they started getting traction over on Threads. No one sees what I post over here though and I like that.

I’m convinced anyone who says “you can just crate a dog & leave” to justify why pet ownership is easier has never crate-trained a dog.

I didn’t sleep for months he howled so much & he still has scars on his face. If he were human, we’d call this “sleep training” & I’d get dragged for cruelty.

My cat is very dialed into me so if I get up and go somewhere, he will, too. He doesn’t follow me around, though. He just sits somewhere convenient & waits so I end up feeling like a video game character constantly ignoring the main quest line.

Something I’ve noticed in online author spaces is this dynamic where authors can talk to each other candidily, but at the same time, if you’re not a bestselling author (yet) your opinion on writing/publishing somehow means less. Creating this current of smaller authors overstepping.

I really would love people to stop saying “and they’re an author??” as if authors are some mythical creatures and not normal human beings capable of doing or saying the wrong thing. This culture of never allowing for people to make mistakes & learn from it gives me hives.

Every so often a stranger on the internet tells me they will never buy a book from me & I don’t know how to tell to them 20+ publishers already passed on the only book i have to sell so that doesn’t sting as much as they want it to 😅😂

A while back I saw a fellow author post discussing “standalone with series potential” when #querying

Today, I got a turndown letter from a publisher via my agent. It said, “I’d be unable to commit to a trilogy, too, which is an added wrinkle. But I knew I had to at least give it a whirl.”

The same people shouting from the rooftops to just let people enjoy things are the first ones to shame haters, a demographic that historically finds enjoyment in hating things. So which is it, babe? 🤔

Some of you men are great but the rest of you need to stop talking to me lol

I’m watching reruns of #CriminalMinds and one of the psycho-unsubs they’re interrogating is also Mike from #Twilight and the fact that he’s SO GOOD at being so creepy and yet also Mike is making my entire night 😂

Some good news this morning! Two years ago, I saw a tiktok about the fatal hit-and-run of a woman walking to her home on a reservation in Montana.

They knew who did it but the local police were uncooperative. The family was asking for help by filing a tip report with the FBI, so I did. [1/2]

Imagine having to fight for a country that stole you from your home and forced you to become a warrior in their army, while fully believing they are justified in oppressing you because they feel like their fight is righteous. Cry, Voidbringer asks many of the same questions we are asking. Read more.

Saying “it’s not fantasy, it’s speculative fiction” is the same as saying, “it’s not crimson, it’s red.”

Crimson is red, babe.

Another day, another man incorrectly explaining my own genre to me rather than trust I know what I’m talking about.

Random person: “So wait, there isn’t any magic at all in your fantasy series??”

Me: “Well, some characters like to think there is, but others think those people are small-minded simpletons.” 😅😂

I hate this year-end wrap trend bc it seems very few people can think rationally in those conversations. I know people who can thoughtfully read hundreds of books in a year, and I know others who can’t & end up mindlessly consuming hundreds of books. Most of us fall somewhere in the middle.

“Are you reading a lot or are you a victim of over-consumption?”

*reader gets incredibly upset*

“You could’ve just picked the first one, you know. I’m curious why you didn’t.”

The fact that I know my dog can dream but he can never tell me what he dreams about keeps me awake at night.

I gave my cat a command and he immediately obeyed and the worst part is there were two other people in the room and neither of them saw it. This must be what’s it like to see a unicorn.

I know I’ve succeeded in achieving a very low level of cognitive dissonance bc I consider Edgar Allen Poe a prolific romance writer while also admitting absolutely nothing he does fits within the genre requirements for romance & holding space for both of those things causes me zero discomfort 🤣🤣
