I remember @sarahkendzior.bsky.social saying, and i very much poorly paraphrase from memory, that covid and then genocide were about getting people used to death at scale so people just shrug when it comes to American streets.
This bringing foreign wars home, fits

ICE operations increasingly resemble Israeli occupation. That’s no coincidence
U.S. immigration enforcement has long cultivated ties with Israel. Now it adapts algorithmic surveillance tactics from Gaza for use on American streets.

Only a couple more to go.
Given how terrible movie adaptions usually are, these Japanese graphic novels really capture the atmosphere of the books beautifully, minus some of the gibbous prose.

Listening to Modest Mouse - Lonesome Crowded West.
Unquestionably one of the best albums ever recorded.
Given how ramshackle the music, it's oddly...well...flawless.
The lyrics may not have the thematic clarity and poetry of the subsequent 2 albums but it feels more profound and raw emotionally.

Best argument for a UBI is that so many talented people just can't survive on teir art.
This fabulous EP from 2016 from the promising "Hunter As a Horse" was the last thing they released.

Had one of those "look up the lyrics after singing a song for 40 years" urges.
Turns out that bit at the end of In My Time of Dying is "I'll Touch Jesus", not, as it turns out "at your cheeses"

Was happy that US colleagues where finally complaining about the dangers of ICE, asking people to stay safe out there.
Only to realise that they were talking about "the ice", and the giant pachyderm will apparently remain invisible as they all stare glassy-eyed with "this is fine" expressions

If all the alt-right Brexit wing of the Tory party defects, does this mean the moderates can come back and we can have a party whose level of evil i'm basically nostalgic for.

No doubt another case of Trump's threats winning him a concession of something he already had but was too stupid to notice.

Trump suggests we'd all be speaking Japanese.
Having spent 3 years struggling to learn it, I think he dramatically overestimates people's ability to learn that language.

A couple of excellent new releases, both, coincidentally, eoponymous.
Jana Horn's 3rd album, beautiful and intimate, like Scout Niblett singing Smog songs.
Debut album from Shaking Hand, there's something early 90s Indie about this, cheerful Slint perhaps?
Excellent albums the pair of them.

It's been a while since Discovery offered anything interesting. Probably something to do with AI feedback loops.
Anyway found this by Dave Gahan's (Depeche Mode) daughter Stella Rose.
Eclectic 2023 album of PJ Harveyesque moody rock with riot grrl inflection on the vocals and strong songwriting.

Nowhere even close to conversational, but on the upside I can say "My tailor is rich and my mother is in the kitchen"

Random delve into the CD shelves brought this up from Swedish post rockers Jeniferever.
It somehow manages to be both glacial and cuddly, Explosions in the Sky meet Boards of Canada via Bungle from Rainbow playing a tuba.

Very good. It focuses on latin america, but the biggest erosion of US power will come due to antagonism to Europe.
Post-war security was to keep Europe peaceful, rich & demilitarised.
Trump is ensuring a powerful military and economic adversary will eventually emerge.
