Skull Team and Wolf Team? I suspect that's where Data East got the idea for their shooters, Wolf Fang and Skull Fang.

I don't know what people were bitching about... Macross might not be 1:1 accurate with the Japanese version, but it feels utterly faithful to the source material next to Voltron/Go-Lion. I'm more impressed with the animation, too.

Look, really, I don't need lengthy explanations of how "cyber-brain sclerosis" works, and I sure don't need tanks that look like jumping spiders discussing existentialism for ten minutes. There's a "bonus" video at the end of the Fandango episodes with the Tachikomas attempting comedy. Uh, nope.

And at least the cartoon isn't up its own ass like Ghost in the Shell is. "I'M SHIRO MASAMUNE! I'M SMARTER THAN THE REST OF YOU! LET ME EXPLAIN WHY IN EXHAUSTIVE DETAIL!"
November 15, 2025 at 7:06 AM
Evidently, Macross is the version that was Macek-ered, but it's three friggin' seasons for five dollars. (Beyond that, I do love the feel of a cheesy old Saturday morning cartoon.) I've spent more on worse.

If you're into anime, there's a pretty good chunk of it in a recent Fandango at Home sale. Five dollars each for Samurai Champloo, Macross, Paranoia Agent (be sure to get the sub or dub based on your preference), and Space Dandy.

Wait, when did they add Sears Telegames games to Atari 50? That must have completely slipped past me.

Man, if you thought Atari 5200 Dig Dug was a buttnutter, just try Atari 400/800 Dig Dug. They didn't even TRY with this one.

I'm watching Ghost in the Shell. Whenever they say "micromachines," I reflexively answer, "From Galoob!"

A week ago, I wrote a beefy blog entry detailing the ten most future-proof video game consoles and handhelds. Now I've done the opposite, covering the ten most future-PRONE game systems. If your favorite system made the list, sorry! One of my faves did, too! kiblitzing.blogspot.com/2025/11/aged...

Damn Scam-azon sent me hazelnut coffee mix instead of the SUGAR-FREE vanilla I specifically ordered. Quite annoying.

Bonus points for Matt Frewer, who's an underappreciated actor if ever there was one.

You gotta understand, Max Headroom was so friggin' 80s it hurts, but it's a smart show. This episode is about a 21st century religion, and there's an old woman whose husband was reconstituted into AI. It was creepy then, and it's creepy now.
November 12, 2025 at 7:34 AM
Hah! Max Headroom: Twenty Minutes in the Future is available on streaming, and it's stupidly cheap. Science-fiction done the 80s way! (With special guest star Rosalind Chao from the Star Trek series!)

It gets you into a Malcolm in the Middle scenario, where the old tech is cheap, while the new tech is cutting-edge. What's in the middle? A computer that's still too expensive, but also without the frills of the latest model.

I've heard of an Amiga port of OutRun, or possibly Cannonball, which required a higher spec Amiga, maybe even one of those weird post-68000 systems that happened after Commodore took a dirt nap. Who has one of those, though? It's like having a PowerPC Macintosh, or somethin'.
November 12, 2025 at 6:35 AM
There were a handful of specs for the Amiga computer, but I greatly prefer it when software will run on a stock A500. I do have an A1200 in the form of an Amiga CD32, give or take a keyboard, but it's a hellacious pain in the ass to use. I'm pretty sure mine also defaults to PAL, which is annoying.

Somebody's been porting arcade games to the Amiga, and as a fan of the computer from its 1985 launch, I'm all for it. It's my understanding that Amiga arcade ports were generally NOT very good the first time around, a shame as this hardware deserved better. www.indieretronews.com/2025/11/rene...

Okay, so here's what I'm thinking. The Barney Miller game takes place entirely in the 12th precinct (like most episodes) and is a maze game, a'la Blueprint. Fish brings in suspects, they mill about in the room until Barney catches them and drags them to lock up.
