Which brings up a very important question:

How does a nation whose democratic systems run on 2 and 6-year cycles make decisions that occur in decadal cycles? THAT is one of our fundamental problems. ALL of our near-peer adversaries can operate in decadal cycles, whereas we cannot.

My major nit with Trump's speech is that it needed a call for the Americans to respond to his aspirations for the country with their own aspirations. A great America doesn't hand out jobs you want; it provides jobs that need to be done. You have to step up, too.

1) preserve the informed consent regime
2) Agencies are prohibited from treating spaceflight as a common carrier
3) a regulatory escape hatch that allows people to knowingly do dangerous things

The best I can tell, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is the legal equivalent of a Blue Ribbon Commission. It has no power other than to recommend. While some of its recommendations may be useful and needed, it is still up to Congress and the Agencies to implement it
