Good at books, terrible at the world.
According to the WSJ’s breakdown, Mamdani only lost the majority of households making >$300,000 and <$30,000. Everyone who’s not very rich or very poor put affordability front and center. It’s always the economy, stupid.

So fantastic to hear people on my street spontaneously break into cheers when Mamdani’s win was declared. Glad I don’t live anywhere else, including the Upper East Side.

Thanks, NYT, for clarifying that you’re looking for quality, not quantity, in protests.

Trump is more Imperial Wizard than wannabe king, drawing upon a history of homegrown hate to intimidate and terrorize.

That Trump is still alive, “exceptional” health or not, shows how many American lives are lost early because of unequal access to health care.

Dada Antifa vs Ubu Roi (King Turd).

Trump is a Don Quixote dictator, brain-addled from watching Fox News, tilting at wind turbines, waging “glorious” battles without provocation or cause, enjoining employees to play along with what they know to be preposterous nonsense.

Stephen Miller must’ve studied Nazi Germany and concluded, the only thing they did wrong was invade foreign countries instead of German cities.

Just learned that Kant had dementia in his 70s, so never mind doing brain teasers and Sudoku.

Reading Peniel Joseph’s Freedom Season (about the fight for civil rights in 1963) to remind myself how very, very hard it has always been to make any progress toward social justice.

If this were 19th-century Japan, every single one of those generals would have committed seppuku.

Regarding those who vote for the feels, how can Dems give them more than their glee from hatred, revenge, breaking things, and inclusion in a dominant group? Dems need to focus on those who don’t vote out of despair, cynicism, and/or inertia. Which Mamdani is doing.

Congress and SCOTUS have bestowed almost unlimited executive power on a man who does not have power over himself.

So why wasn’t there a significant decline in autism rates for US babies born in 1983?

My mother’s rural Midwestern church prayed for Charlie Kirk’s assassin to be a leftist. These fools want civil war.

My only worry about Trump’s failing health is that he’s so vindictive, he’s going to try to take all of us with him.

When the National Guard
takes over Times
Square, I hope tourists plug their gun barrels with Statue of Liberty tchotchkes.

I, too, love NY—but holy fuck is it expensive to live here. Manhattan Buy Nothing Groups are the new Filene’s Basement. Instead of fighting over discount wedding gowns, we compete for free toilet paper and dry beans.

In future, when the United States is ready to reckon with the crimes of the Trump administration, the Republican party should be banned.

New Yorkers aren’t as insulated from economic inequality as Americans in other areas. For example, I’m in a low-income apartment building facing a luxury high-rise. Based on what I see on their giant TVs, rich people are complete idiots.

Are we going to decriminalize euthanasia for people who need care but can’t pay for it, or are we just putting them in camps?

At a time in which higher ed in the US is fighting for its very survival, it’s good to see that Amherst Magazine is leading with a story on Ultimate Frisbee.

Zohran’s baby baskets are lovely. Care, not precarity.
June 26, 2025 at 12:26 PM
Zohran’s victory is especially vital because many young people are parched for ethical role models who don’t seem like chumps or losers.
