A brilliant sunrise greeting the arriving winter storm. Nothing makes me feel #small quite like Mother Nature.

I was going to take the day off from hiking, but the updated forecast calls for band after band of snow starting tomorrow. With it maybe being the last of green visible on the ground, I decided best to hit the trail after all.

My passion is to understand the human mind; perception and belief. There have been innumerable posts ‘what will it take to change minds’. This wk a post with sim. pic, ‘I’ve lived in MT 15 yrs and never seen anything like this. What is going on with these?’ W.Larch put on this display EVERY YEAR

Getting outside has been my momentary reprieve from the craziness of this current world. The last long spell has been full of sogginess of all forms. Wearing my rain gear has left me as wet inside as outside. Thank goodness for the pearls nature delivers to keep me going.

It was a rainy/snowy weekend. As I was coming off the trail, the clouds started lifting and dividing, making for some magical views.

Looking back over the past week, when I think of #bright, I recall sitting in my yard, all bundled up, watching the Northern Lights show and being mesmerized.

This view from a couple of weeks ago will have to do. I headed out to check snow depth after the latest storms. But…those also brought high winds. The access roads to TH are now littered with windfalls. A 5 mile hike turned to 15-20 miles is too far for these old legs.

#Evening has been falling earlier these days but grateful for the bright moon lighting the night this week, even through heavy and ominous clouds.

Timing is everything. When I saw the updated weather forecast yesterday, I rushed to finish reorganizing the garage so I could park inside. View of my yard this morning.

Yeah, I hike slowly. Some hikes, I find myself stopping to take in things both big and small, every few steps. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

Good news for grizzlies 🎉

A federal court just ruled that multiple environmental laws were broken in approving the Knotty Pine logging project in the Kootenai National Forest.

The project authorized logging, burning, and new roads across more than 7,000 acres.

Enjoying Terra firma for as long as I can. The snow line is marching lower and already microspikes in pack. Won’t be long until snowshoes added to the heft.

The turning of the Western Larch is always so bittersweet. Enthralling in their brilliance, it’s difficult to contain the joy. But always backed by that shadow of barrenness and darkness that is soon to dominate.

Very small waterfall in a hidden paradise. Still trying to fit in as many mountain hikes before the trails become blanketed in snow.
